Connection issues, dmz , advanced dmz and ipv6 firewall questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all

If these have been answered either the answers i found i was not clear on for my situation or did not find them so i will apologize in advance if they have been answered .

I'm connecting the R1 to a T3200M actiontec modem/router with an ethernet cable.

After trial and error i finally got access to the R1 dashboard but i was getting ping warnings and dropping my connection (wired and wireless from the xbox one and laptop) .

I factory reset the actiontec so all port forwarding and such has been removed, rebooted everything several times.

The R1 has a DHCP reserved IP

The R1 is in dmz but there is an option for Advanced DMZ and not sure If I need to use this ?

Should I have the IPV6 firewall on ?

Should Wan Ping block be disabled ?

There is an option for IPV6 dmz is this anything i need to mess with ?

I have a lot of wifi devices, fire boxes ect.. should i also give them there own static ip ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thank you

Hey, welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you probably have devices connected to the actiontec is that right? Make sure ALL devices are connected to the R1 and that should solve your issue.

I would disable the WiFi on the Actiontec, also disable it's UPnP & any port forwarding settings. That way all devices will stay connected to the R1 so congestion control will work correctly and there will be no port issues.

After all that setup the router for your speeds and would advise using 70/70 anti-flood with your console in hyper traffic.

Ok, so everything mentioned I have done but my xbox says "nat not available" (no packet loss though) and my latency has doubled .

I know speed tests aren't accurate on xbl but it is about 10mb slower then previous checks (not sure if this is because of prioritization by the R1) . it is wired with a brand new cat6 ethernet, i bought 2 the same and tested both going to the xbox and to the T3200M modem/router .

It seems the R1 made 2 UDP port forwards in the T3200M, i'm assuming I leave these ?

Should I have this also in the Advanced DMZ, i have not found any useful info as to what difference the 2 are and my ISP is of no help of course .

Thanks in advance for any help you can be !

Disable the Geo-filter before turning on the console. Can you see the NAT now?

Disable upnp forwarding in miscellaneous settings. It shouldn't have to open ports on the T3200M if the R1 is in it's DMZ. You can try the advanced DMZ as well, it shouldn't create any issues but could help with NAT.

Open nat on the xbox and so far BO 2-3 open, I am getting some weird lag/studder/pausing now but will put in some game time and see if it's just game issues . I will try the Advnaced DMZ also to see if it cleans things up .

I did however have to port forward udp 3074-75 to get them open . Geo-filter is off and ping is back the 60's

Speeds on my laptops are still very low on openspeedtest.com but ping is excellent, i have prioritized the xbox in the tree/flower (what ever that is) at 20 and laptops, fires boxes at 16, and phones around 4, would this be why ?

I'm going to turn video on the fireboxes and make sure they all work but curious if this is the prioritization

Thanks for all the help again, it is greatly appreciated ! love the router

After you've got your NAT reading you can reenable the Geo-filter - it's just to see if it's causing a block of the NAT reading - it's not actually causing a NAT issue just showing the reading properly.

Yes that'd be why your speeds are lower. Generally I don't usually mention to allocate bandwidth to devices - as long as share excess is on and you're using anti-flood/hyper traffic you should be good.

Sorry for the late response but i have had health issues to deal with . i think at this point everything is working as it should, any lag and studdering i'm going to assume is game related and my shitty internet . bot certain why i had to port forward 3074-75 but it's working .

The only issue i'm having is the R1 control panel being extremely slow in loading/working but not to concerned about it atm .

Thanks for all the help Fraser, greatly appreciated and again, i'm really digging the router great work !

Hope you're feeling better!

May be able to solve the slow interface with this: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/19266-slow-gui-interface-the-solution-is-here/otherwise if the interface is open for too long it may slow down so try that first.

Great to hear that!

So I tried the method in that thread you mentioned and it didn't work, right now I cant even login to the R1 . It's the endless loading screen and I rebooted the R1 about 20 minutes ago because the wifi dropped out (again) . I haven't been able to play much but it would seem when this happens my ping goes crazy high 1000ms+ and games are unplayable .

Any suggestions would be appreciated !

Hi Rawzi, welcome to the forum! First off, are you using Google Chrome or Firefox? The UI is much more stable on these platforms. If you wire the Netduma directly to a PC, I'm guessing the interface still continues to load forever? Have you rebooted or factory reset the router, or tried turning off the modem and Netduma before turning on the Modem, waiting 5 minutes, and turning on the Netduma?

We could give you several pointers regarding Wi-fi dropouts and ping spikes, but we need to make sure you can properly access the interface first. Can you access the UI on any other devices, such as your phone? Does 192.168.88.1 work as opposed to http://r1(or vice versa)? Have you got an interface password applied?
