Ridiculous vpn speed reductions

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I have a IPvanish account of which I use to run within netduma. My issue is that going through the netduma seems to slow my speed down by over 75%!!!!

If I run my devices through the ipvanish app directly I am getting over 20mbs, however going through netduma it's only around 7. Could someone tell me either why this is, and more importantly if there is anything I can do setup wise to sort this problem, or if there are plan for netduma themselves to sort it.

Thanks

The Netduma hardware isn't capable of encrypting/decrypting anything faster than about 10Mbps which is plenty for gaming.

sorry Mod mate I have to disagree with you. I am on P.I.A and my speed drops from 75mbps down to 60 and upload from 18 down to 18. Therefore his issue must be a vpn server routing issue.

You are not getting 60 Mbps going through the netduma's VPN

Thanks for replies chaps. I can't comment on whether gaming over vpn is recommended or not, but surely with piece of hardware that is so good in so many aspects it seems stupid to cut yourself off from a lot more sales because of your software? I alone have 4 people who would buy one of these if it wasn't the fact your software is rubbish when it comes to restricting the download speeds! Unless there are plans to change this then they as well as me will be going the openwrt route also.

There are a lot of people looking for something like this for streaming purposes rather than gaming...especially after the latest eu ruling this week...

1 - it's a cpu limitation so it has nothing to do with "rubbish" software

2 - 10 Mbps is plenty bandwidth to do almost everything over VPN

3 - It can do 950 Mbps download/upload without the VPN, how is that restricted?

4 - It's not being advertised as a piracy router, the purpose of the VPN feature is to stop you from being DDoS'd while playing games.
