furiousix Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Hello, my name is Konrad. I have a problem and I am hoping someone can help me out. I just got new internet from COMCAST. They provided me with their modem and router. I need to know how to connect their router to my Netduma router. Let me know if anyone knows how to connect 2 routers to the same modem so it works. Thanks!
Dillinger Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 The normal application would be Wall > Modem > NetDuma and then everything in line after the NetDuma. Doing it in any other way would negate the ability to use the NetDuma's features to protect your gaming session, so I personally wouldn't do it.
PharmDawgg Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Hello, my name is Konrad. I have a problem and I am hoping someone can help me out. I just got new internet from COMCAST. Thanks!I would like to add to what Dillinger said. I have Comcast as well and I would say the best case scenario would be to ditch their combo modem/router if possible. It will save you on rental fees and I believe you will be able to purchase a more reliable product when it comes to modems. That is unless you have phone service. You will need to use their product I believe if you do. I cut the cord a long time ago.If you are able to get your own modem you can just call Comcast to have it activated. Then your set up will look like this. NEW modem>Netduma> other devices. If you have to use Comcast's device then you have two options 1.) Place the Netduma in the combo modem/router's dmz. 2.) Place the combo modem/router in bridge - which is basically turning off all the router capabilities of Comcast's device. Both of theses solutions will keep you from getting what we call double nat issues. I found the latter to work better for me before I purchased my own modem. **** If (and I can't emphasize this next statement enough) you decide to purchase your own router come back to this forum and we will give you suggestions on what to purchase because there are a lot of modems out there that causes issues when connected to the Netduma. For instance ping spikes and loss of connection due to an EEE bug***** Warpath pe please create your own support forum. It allows use to provide better support. Thanks.
II N3MES1S II Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Please somebody help me I have an Arris model: TG1672G and my netduma r1 is not reading my modem. it says unidentified network. I already got my internet provider to bridge it and factory reset it but nothing. Did you bridge then factory reset? If you did then it goes back to being the modem/router combo again. Switch to bridge mode and leave it alone, then connect the netduma.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 6, 2017 Administrators Posted January 6, 2017 Hey, welcome to the forum! It sounds like they gave you a separate modem & router is that right? If so I would recommend just using the modem connected to the Netduma and not using their router or if you really want to use it connecting it to the Netduma so you still make use of all the R1's features. If you mean it's a modem/router combo then put it in modem mode, connect the R1 and connect all devices to the R1.
fuzzy clam Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I would agree with Buck,if you're able to get your own modem that's the best way to go.Normally any ISP's equipment they leave are less than optimal for having the best home network set up to help with your gaming (and everything else in your house).I'm not saying you have to spend a fortune on a modem as there are several that are under the 60-80 dollar (and that's probably high) price range that are compatible with the duma. As Buck said make sure if you're gonna get your own post back here and we'll get you set up with the one's that will work with the duma...
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 10, 2017 Administrators Posted January 10, 2017 How have you got on since creating your post? Any progress? By the way, I'm moving this to General Support.
