eddedre
Recently I've been having issues with my internet speeds. I have 1Gbps up and down from my ISP. My settings are; Reactive Algorithm 100% anti-flood Share excess disabled Disabled IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc Disabled deep packet in misc Enabled turbo mode When I remove my R1 and place my PC behind my ISPs device I get about 700Mbps down/up (the PC inst the best, when my ISP was on site they were able to get 900 Gbps up/down). When I have the above settings configured and I use my R1 I get about 500Mbps down and 550Mbps up. Are those speeds expected based on the R1's hardware? In addition, I have hit some sort of bug when I have Turbo Mode enabled I can not connect to my works Personal VPN. The fix was disable Turbo Mode but unfortunately when I do that I only get 100 Mbps down and 90 Mbps Up. So i'm definitely in a pickle here with this setting as I work from home. Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted December 20, 2016 Netduma Staff Share Posted December 20, 2016 Do you have Super Turbo enabled? I'm not sure about the VPN issue - Fraser may be able to help you with that when he sees the thread
eddedre
For me to get 500Mbps down and 550Mbps up I need to have Turbo mode enabled.
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted December 20, 2016 Netduma Staff Share Posted December 20, 2016 Just checking you've got super turbo enabled (there is a difference between turbo and super turbo). You need super turbo in order to get the fastest speeds possible. ^ Both those boxes should be ticked on yours. To have super turbo you need to be on the latest version (1.03.6). eddedre
I do have those both ticked on mine. Super Turbo Mode and Turbo Mode. Does anyone know what the max speeds the router can handle? 200 Mbps being lost in both directions seems quite a bit to me but this might be expected. The tough part is even if I do get my max speeds I still have my issue where if I enable Turbo Mode I can't see to access certain VPNs. and When I uncheck that I get speeds of 100Mbps up/down
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 21, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 21, 2016 For your speeds do this: Reactive Algorithm 100% anti-flood Share excess enabled Reset device prioritisation & apply Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc Disable deep packet in misc Enable turbo mode Enable super turbo mode Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds. Do a wired speed test from a PC Should be able to achieve between 500-800mbps with those settings. The fix for the VPN issue does seem to be turning off turbo mode of which we can't do a fix until DumaOS. I would recommend turning them off/on when needed. Do you require those high speeds for work? You shouldn't need more than ~100mbps when doing work though I of course understand the frustration.
eddedre
I made those changes I am getting roughly 650Mbps down/500 Mbps up. I would expect some overhead with all the traffic managing that is happening to bring down my numbers. Does the router have any CPU utilization? or RAM usage stats? Also is there any documentation on what Turbo Mode/Super Mode turns on/off? I'm glad that DumaOS will have a fix for my VPN issue. I sadly do need all the bandwidth. I would in IT Operations and move gigs worth of data on a constant bases.
Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted December 21, 2016 Netduma Staff Share Posted December 21, 2016 The CPU and RAM stats will be in DumaOS; there's a screenshot of that feature here: http://forum.netduma.com/uploads/monthly_11_2016/post-1705-0-97071400-1479312576.png I assume you mean on a technical level (regarding Turbo Mode) in which case there isn't. It might be advisable in your case to just use the R1 for gaming; since you need Super Turbo Mode for those speeds, you can't make use of the congestion control anyway, so there's no need to connect everything to the R1 for that purpose. This is especially considering that you're unlikely to encounter congestion at those speeds. For your gaming you should leave your consoles connected to the R1 and use the Geofilter. This would be the best set up for your work, but should also ensure that you get the best gaming experience as well.
eddedre
The DumaOS does look very promising in resolving some of my issues (VPN issue and speed performance). I would much rather reduce the amount of hardware devices in my wiring closet and avoid adding another piece of hardware that the rest of my household will use for simplistic sake. When is the expected release of the new DumaOS? Will there be any posted performance benchmarks on throughput when it releases?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 30, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 30, 2016 You can see an update on development here: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/19113-dumaos-development-update/ We haven't thought about that but potentially something we can do
eddedre
Any more suggestions? I did some more testing using the same PC's and when I use the R1 I only get 300d and 200u. When I by pass the router I get 700down/up.It seems to be inconsistent.
Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted January 6, 2017 Netduma Staff Share Posted January 6, 2017 You should be able to get more than 300 with turbo mode and super turbo mode enabled (With the other settings suggested above), the hardware can handle much more than that. Unless you're using a cable that can't support your speeds, there's no reason why you should be getting that much less if you've followed the advice above. eddedre
I do agree. I just did another test bypassing the router using the same cables and I get 900d/600u I am going to factory reset the device and test.

I have followed your advice and I am still getting speeds below 100 mbps. I was still reaching 900+ mbps up/down last night using my ASUS RT-AC87U. I am a competitive SFV player and I was hoping NETDUMA could help me filter out some unwanted players and improve my game lag. Any advice would be appreciated

eddedre
I've decided to take a different approach to my speed issue and just downgrade my service from 1Gbs to 500Mbps since I was not getting those speeds.

Okay great, are you receiving those speeds now? The fact you've halved your internet speed and it's still faster than most people's makes me very jealous. The fact you've halved your internet speed and it's still faster than most people's makes me very jealous. At first I was only getting 100Mb up/down. I had to reset back to factory defaults again and then follow the steps you mentioned in the first page. I appears to be working now and I am getting 500 up and down (I downgraded my internet to 500Mb up/down) Based on all my testing (with 1GB service) I was able to get about 900Mb down and 700Mb up when bypassing the netduma. When I use my Duma I only get a fraction of that so there appears that the hardware/software is not able to keep up with those speeds of having a 1Gb service. I do understand that QoS and other features will add additional overhead but I was not expecting that much and the fact that I have factory reset my device to achieve the 500Mb is a bit concerning as I dont regularly do speed tests. It is stated on our hardware page that it doesn't quite reach 1gb; https://netduma.com/features/hardware/ You shouldn't have to factory reset to get your full speeds, however keep an eye on this and let us know if it decreases again. eddedre
Thanks Jack! I did read that limitation. I wasn't expecting quiet the amount of speed lost (~300MBs). Its ok though as I'm using 500 Mb dwn/ip now and I can achieve those speeds fine.
