Kevomeister011
I currently game on a 55' 4kTV. I would like to move my gaming setup to my desk that has a monitor, but I'd like to maintain a LAN connection. My current setup is Cable Modem>R1>Nighthawk r7000 in AP. The easiest way would be if I could just move the Nighthawk to the desk and hopefully use it as a LAN switch. Would it even work that way? The duma handles all DHCP. I disabled the DCHP on the Nighthawk when I put it in AP mode. I could move the duma, but then I'd have to run 2 cat 6 cables. One to the modem and one to the nighthawk. Don't really want to do that or move everything to the desk area. So, would the Nighthawk act as a LAN switch in AP mode with my current setup? Would I lose features of the duma by not plugging my consoles directly into that? Should I just buy a switch? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong sub. I didn't know exactly where to put it. Feel free to move it.
iAmMoDBoX
Yup should work fine, just plug into one of the open LAN ports on the back of the nighthawk and it should be good to go.
ColonicBoom
As Mod BoX says, it should be fine. Pretty sure others in here are running exactly that setup. Mine is like that, just with a different router as AP/switch.
