Question on bridge mode

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if it is recommended that we run the duma with bridge mode enabled on a modem if it's possible to do so. I saw a post somewhere saying it was good to do, and I have bridge mode on my modem. Just would like to know if it's better to do so and what the benefit is of doing it. Thanks.

Bridge mode, as that I know of, essentially tells the router/modem to not use anything else that the router provides, and act like a switch hub without firewall and such.

Netduma itself would benefit from that, as it'll be given full NAT, all ports to check.. ect

If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htmand http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Disable any ISP modem WiFi and filters like firewalls and such.

Prefered connection method with a ISP stand alone modem:

ISP modem>R1 router<>connected devices.

Connection method with a ISP modem with built in router that can be bridged:

ISP modem(bridged)>R1 router<>connected devices.

Connection method with a ISP modem with built in router that can't be bridged:

ISP modem(DMZ)>R1 WAN ip address placed in ISP modems DMZ<>connected devices to WRT router.

Thank you for the responses. I've set it up with my modem in bridge mode and all seems to be working great. Very much appreciated.
