Pretty much says it all?

Sony is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy because the PS4 didn't sell as well as they initially projected.

It may be outselling the XB1, but we have to remember consoles are sold at a loss the first few years because the producer makes back the money in software sales, but... Guess what? The majority of PS4 titles aren't exclusive (multi-plats) and the ones that are did not do well like "The Order 1886". The rest of the PS4's line up will consist of indie games and multi-plats, so nothing is going to change, but it *has* to change for them to make a profit because they are funding yet another "Spiderman" reboot just because they want a piece of the super hero pie.

They spent too much money stealing the call of duty exclusivity from Microsoft, I'm a little sore about it, but regardless I'm sure that cost them more then a pretty penny

There are industry (Bloomberg; Wallstreet) tech analysts who predict we may see another console from MS and Sony as soon as 2018.

The current PS4 and XB1 are woefully under powered; they can't even do 1080p @30fps on some games (mostly the XB1, but Sony is not immune). This is relevant because $300-$500 PCs can run most games maxed out at 1080p, 60fps... The exact same cost of a console and those can easily be upgraded to keep up with evolving software. Most children growing up in this day and age know how to use a PC before they can walk, so the old idea of "it's too complicated" is gradually fading away... Which coincides with consumers wanting better quality (1080p, 60fps) and not settling for under powered hardware like the consoles currently have.

It makes no difference if the consoles are under powered or over powered or just right with the coding on the COD games of today. If they come out with a new console in 2018 that is the most powerful we've ever seen and they still use the same engine and coding,we'll be having the same conversation 2 years from now.
