My new favourite KN44 setup

Word up,

The title says it all really...

This post is a little lengthy but I thought I'd share it anyway... Maybe it would be easier to make a video on it!

I've been mixing and matching attachments on the KN44 for a while now and I've found a setup that works really well for me so I'd though I'd share it (along with my reasons for picking them)...

I've been going anywhere from 3KD to 25KD consistently. I mainly play KKC and TDM.

My KN44 class (for now):

1. KN44

The obvious choice for a KN44 class  ;)

2. Recon sight

This negates 90% of the guns idle sway and reduces the guns recoil by 5%. The gun is a 4 hit kill gun at it's max range so lets take advantage of that by having a ranged scope!

3. Suppressor

Probably the only gun (bar sniper rifles) which isn't greatly effected by the suppressor. Yes, you do lose a little bit of range on that sweet 3 hit kill range but it will always kill in 4 shots. I mean... who doesn't want to stay off the mini map?

4. Fast Mags

This could possibly be swapped for another attachment of your choice. However, if you're a prolific reloader like myself then fast mags is a must. Rushing class or no rush class...

5. Wildcard - Primary Gunfighter 1

We're talking another attachment with us on the KN44!

6. Laser Sight

Laser sight? On an assault rifle? Are you mad?!

The KN44 has a pretty good 3 hit kill range. The setup is mostly geared up for medium to long range engagements at the moment. Having a laser sight is kind of like having a get out of jail card for those unexpected close range 1v1's you may encounter especially if we're not running quickdraw and a low zoom scope. I've beaten a few Vespers using this so don't knock it until you've tried it  ;)

Quickdraw is another option, but without pairing Fast Hands with it, I don't find it to be as effective.

7. Perk 2 - Hardwired

Possibly (in my opinion) the strongest single perk in the game. Just look at it's description...

"Grants immunity to Counter-UAVs, Power Core, and EMP grenades. Proximity based Lethal and Tactical equipment won't also be triggered by you. Hard Wired also counters the Tracker and Sixth Sense Perk by reducing your digital imprint."

What's not to like about it?!

8. Perk 3 - Awareness

A must for anyone who owns a headset. It could easily be the most powerful perk in the game, but the fact your footsteps sound like Nelly the Elephant sometimes makes differentiating your footsteps from the enemies that little bit harder. Which leads me onto our next perk (which you've probably already guessed)...

9. Perk 3 - Dead Silence

Combined with Awareness, this makes you the ultimate killer... When you run, the only footsteps you will hear are your teammates and most importantly, your enemies. It also counters any other player running Awareness!

The beauty of this Perk 3 combination is you can usually hear your enemy before you see them. With a zero sway, off the mini map, über hip fire gun which is most likely in it's 3 hit kill range if you can hear them... you can guarantee they're dead before they even have time to put their gun up.

The other benefit of using these two perks in slot 3 is it eliminates the use of Sixth Sense. You'll hear those footsteps way before Sixth Sense starts blipping. Combining them with Hardwired also counters any enemy with Sixth Sense so there is definitely no way of them knowing you're ready for them!

10. Wildcard - Perk 3 Greed

You'll need this for obvious reasons.

Specialist

Spectre's Ripper. 'Nuff said.

In all seriousness, the Ripper is either hailed as an overpowered specialist or an underpowered specialist depending on who you speak to. We have a range based class here (bar the last chance saloon laser sight!) so having the best close quarters specialist to hand is a must.

I commented on Mr. Trakky's post not too long ago about why I like the Ripper...

This is what I said:

  • The one specialist which allows you to panic knife in a game where panic knifing no longer exists
  • It's like Commando Pro on steroids
  • One of the only specialists who's abilities activate immediately (no animation upon activating it)
  • The charge time is ridiculously fast
  • If you die you get to keep some of your charge
  • He looks like The Stig's older meaner brother

The ultimate CQC specialist.

Scorestreaks

This is entirely up to you but I've had the most success with the following...

Talon

Let this little dude stay by your side. You need all the CQC help you can get! Yeah, you'll get more kills controlling it but you're a sitting duck if the enemy calls in a UAV.

Wraith

If they're outdoors and they don't have cold blooded on... then they can say hello to the killcam.

R.A.P.S

The silver balls of death. Activate these before your Wraith as they take a short while to enter the map. When they drop... activate your Wraith. If the enemy run indoors from the Wraith then the R.A.P.S will get them. When they respawn back in, the Wraith will get them. Rinse and repeat.

No UAV?

Every man and his dog runs UAV on BO3. Save yourself a slot and use their UAV's to your advantage.

General tips for this setup

This setup requires a more laid back approach. I said laid back, not camping.

1. Only sprint when you need to. Remember, we don't have quickdraw or fast hands on this class. So the more you 'rush' the more chance you have of dying. Laser sight alleviates this problem, but will work best if you walk into a room rather than sprinting... that way there will be no sprint out penalty and your hip fire spread will be tighter than a nun's chuff.

2. Stick to one side of the map. Let the enemy come to you. Remember, range is predominantly king with this class. Patrol that side of the map and control the map. Use Dead Silence and Awareness to your advantage and listen out for any flankers - unless they are also running Dead Silence, then you have to try your best to use your laser sight and specialist.

3. If an enemy calls in a UAV, stay away from their spawn. Even though we're not running Ghost and we don't have a launcher to take it down, we do have Awareness! Listen to them running towards you and catch them off guard! You'll, most likely have more than one coming for you so make sure those fast mags come in handy!

4. This is an obvious one, but I've seen so many people not do it... Use cover to your advantage. The recon scope can be a little uncomfortable to use at 1st and you will lose some of your peripheral vision when scoped in. Reduce the chances of death by ADSing whilst behind some form of cover.

5. Pick up another gun. The chances are you're going to kill a lot of enemies if you use this class correctly, so pick up another gun ASAP. I'd recommend picking up an SMG so you can to beef up the CQC element of the class. If you need to go into a building, switch out to your SMG until you're back in a position to dominate. There are two reasons for this... number 1: You may run out of ammo for your beloved KN44 and number 2: if you are forced into a CQC play, at least you have another weapon more suited for it. I'd say 80% of enemies I play against run SMG's. Easily 70% of those use the Vesper. Stick one in your back pocket and beat them at their own game!

The KN44 is a pretty popular weapon, and I'm not sure if it's just me... but if I run over a dead body of someone who also uses the KN44 - it adds their ammo into my reserve. In a way, it eradicates the need for scavenger as there's usually a KN44 user other than yourself in the game.  If anyone can clarify this, please let me know... I may be wrong, but from experience I've been on a 15 kill streak with 150+ bullets in reserve.

What maps does this class work on?

I can happily say I've had success on all maps (including Combine!). Remember to control one side of the map and you'll be golden. In fact, I've had the most success on Combine as everyone usually runs with SMG's and Shotguns... We've got a range advantage here- use it!

Anyway, if you've lasted all the way down until this point in my post... I thank you!

Any tips for tweaking it, then let me know. I'm expecting at least one person to tell me to ditch the laser sight  ;)

Make a brew, make this class and try it out!

Fantastic post Quickfaith I'll defo give this a go, I see we're in unison on a few things my kind of player, hardwired is a phenomenal perk and often overlooked if you ask me the KN is probably my best AR, well its joint with the Man o War at the moment as for the Ripper i dont need to say nothing

Not sure on the laser sight on a AR  ;) but i will give it a go and see

I have never used hard wired on BO3 as i always run scavenger in perk 2,again i will try and see what it does for me

Always a brew made for grinding  :D

I love the Man-O-War but the slightly faster fire rate on the Kn does it for me. The recon sight makes that class though to be fair.

Slow and steady wins the race with this class.

Laser sight is great on it! It's 3 hit ttk is ridiculous. It acts like a slow firing SMG. In fact, I think the KN fires faster than the Razorback...

It really does melt if you hip fire it.

Scavenger is nice, but you can easily pick up a second run from one of your victims. Plus, the KN44 is a popular weapon, so I've found myself picking up ammo for the gun from dead enemies. thus eradicating the need for scavenger.

Slow and stead is something i'm learning the hard way  :(

I know what you mean man. I used to be a rush player and nothing else. Christmas noobs hated me, but I was in their faces like Adam West's 60's Batman *BAM* *POW* *WOOSH*

All of a sudden though, I've been stopped dead in my tracks using my usual rushing classes. I'm putting this down to head glitchers and people finding very sneaky lines of sight. This KN44 set up is sort of a 'best of both worlds'. I can wash away head glitchers and I can still go Batman if I want to.

I highly recommend picking up an enemies SMG if you have a chance as backup (I'll ad this into the original post)

Thanks for taking the time to write this up, super job!

Thanks for the kind words DB!

My go to attachments on the Man-O-War are:

Recon sight, extended mags, stock and long barrel.

I find that these work really well on the gun if you sit back (again, in a non camping way).

Long barrel on the MOW effectively turns it into a 3 hit kill at all ranges. I doubt you'll ever get into a gunfight which takes 4 bullets or more unless you shoot through an object first. I mean, there is obviously a drop off point for that 3 hit kill but the maps and lines of sight are quite short on most maps so I doubt you'll ever see that damage drop off.

Extended mags is better than fast mags on this class as you'll want to avoid all cqc engagements. You can easily pick off 4-5 enemies from range before needing to reload. It's great for opening plays when you have the whole team bum rushing you all from the same direction.

Stock is nice for strafing behind that essential cover I talked about in the KN setup, but this can be swapped with foregrip to make it even more accurate. I feel that even though stock has been nerfed since BO2, it's pretty good for long rage engagement strafing. However, stock on SMG's is a totally different beast!

Remember, recon already gives you 5% extra recoil reduction, so adding foregrip will stack with that (if you decide to switch stock out)

Perks wise, I'd keep the, the same as the KN44. I'd also use the same tactics too.

Remember to pick up a backup SMG up from a dead enemy for extra measure!

Thanks quick,

It will be a bit as I made an accidental mistake, I "MAX"d the MoW and then Prestiged it without realizing what would happen.  Now I have to get all my attachments back...

One thing I thought might help this gun was Rapid Fire, what are your thoughts.  I would go for the Grip as my aim needs all the help it can get.

Again I appreciate the response.

Rapid fire on automatic weapons only gives it around a 6% increase in speed.

Exactly what UK_Wildcats_Fans has said DB!

Rapid fire is only really beneficial on semi auto guns (to try and stop you oversampling the trigger) or guns with high rpm to begin with.

According to the stat sheets, the MOW has a standard fire rate of 517rpm with rapid fire, it'll bump it up to 550. That's an increase of 33rpm - something you definitely won't notice.

If you were to stick it on something like the M8A7 which has 1000rpm, rapid fire will bump it up to 1111rpm. That's 111rpm more and it makes rapid fire a more viable option for this gun.

Here's the full stat sheet for all guns and attachments in BO3. The info on that spreadsheet is better than any YouTube video you'll ever watch IMO!

The rapid fire attachment on burst weapons reduces the time between burst.  It does not change the actual burst fire rate.  Rapid fire attachment on the M8A7 reduces the burst delay of 166mS by ~20% (~33mS reduction).

It used to, but Vondy announced on Twitter a while ago that rapid fire no longer alters the burst delay, but the actual fire rate instead.

I'll try and dig out a link... If I can find it!

Very interesting.  I found it in the patch notes.  That makes more sense.

in the same patch notes they changed the rapid fire attachment for burst weapons from delay to speed AND reduced the fire rate of the m8 .....what the lord giveth!

quickdraw would effectively give a better ttk on the man of war than rapid fire would as well, but i spose both wouldn't hurt :)

I quickly recorded this gameplay using my KN44 class setup. It's not the most exciting gameplay you'll see but you get the idea.

I stick to *most* of the rules and guides that I originally talked about.

I try and take it slow and steady but sometimes my inner rusher would come out and bite me in the backside! I got merked a few times for doing that, and I also got caught out by the occasional camper... just as I was about to get me R.A.P.S too!

I still managed to get my Wraith though. In fact, my final kill of the game would have earned me my second. Maybe next time eh?!

As you can see though, the laser sight is boss on the KN44 and works wonders in the CQC encounters I have.

I've been getting consistent games like this since using this class so I think it's a keeper.

Only thing I find with this sight is it can obscure your view of your view especially if your not in a long rage gun fight but with no weapon sway it's such a sweet setup mate

I completely agree with you on that one. But like you said, the zero sway makes up for it. As long as you condition yourself to make sure 90% of all gunfights are at range, then you have a winner on your hands. The recon sight is borderline OP in some guns because of this IMO, as long as you keep your distance.

Try the HVK30 with recon sight, extended mags, grip and long barrel. It's a long range melt machine!

personally i much prefer the varix, but use the recon till it's unlocked

top tip, if you want long shots use a varix but don't zoom in, you'll get longshots awarded at a silly range a lot of the time for some inexplicable reason.
