dionysus Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I have heard that if you change your DNS settings on your xb1 to lets say Google 8.8.8.8 that you will increase your speeds on your console. Lets start a discussion about it to see if it works or get your knowledge about it. There is also a google page about it https://code.google.com/p/namebench/ that lets you search for the fastest DNS. ***I don't know if the programme is safe so if you downloaded and all hell breaks loose please post here first***
Zennon Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 NameBench is fine there is also GRC DNS Benchmark. I use openDNS in my router, my downloads are speeded up from Xbox live. It will not affect your gaming though. The DNS will convert example www.google.co.uk into an IP address, connect to the said IP's server then show you the page. Some do this a lot quicker than other which speeds up browsing.
dionysus Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Cool. Yeah I was downloading Fifa at around 50 megs someone in the party said about setting google as DNS for getting faster downloads when I changed it, it increased to 80-100 not a massive difference. Would that effect Netflix on the console I remember on the 360 you could change your dns to get the American Netflix.
Zennon Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 If you pick an American DNS it might work, but you browsing would be a lot slower.
A7Legit Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 DNS server changes do nothing for XBL/PSN gaming
