Is it only the host that needs vpn

Please explain why you think I’m a shit for brains, smart arse and how I’ve now confirmed that I’m an idiot. Also, please confirm and explain which of my 3 valid points you seem to be having trouble understanding and have taken exception to. -
Playing on XSX with QoS set at 75% and set up a new rule for the XSX with Normal and WAN. Was using Gaming/Voice but the results are the same. I can’t screenshot at the moment as not at home, and those details don’t seem to be DumaOS mobile.

There are only 7 servers showing currently…1x France and 6x USA.

What’s the right combination of geo filter and QoS for someone in the UK? I’ve done the QoS and congestion control changes you’ve suggested on one of the other threads and tested geo filter to UK only and the whole of EU, but I’m still having plenty of shoot first die first moments. The ridiculously strong SBMM really doesn’t help either as I’m being matched with wanna be COD pros if I queue solo…and when I play with friends, then the SBMM means that I’m dominating the lobby but they all go badly negative KD (they even comment how stark the difference is in difficulty is as soon as I join the lobby). Would I be better off using geo filter to try force East Coast US server at 80-90ms? I tried to force Italy and Spain the other day (approx 30ms) but was unable to find any games. Also as of right now, the only EU server showing on Ping Heatmap is France at 19ms.

Still only showing 1x France and 6x US.

I saw quite a few EU servers this evening but just been checking Ping Heatmap at 5am GMT, and the only server is in France. Does this mean it’s no longer working correctly or are they disabling servers after a certain time?

Tried geo filter to cover Italy and Spain but could not find any games at all. It was approx 2:30am GMT so not sure if this would be an issue so will try again in the evening time. SBMM has kicked in hard for me now playing solo, and it’s not enjoyable being matched against entire teams of wanna be COD pros that insta kill me before I’ve even had chance to ADS. Also tried disabling crossplay in Xbox settings and it worked…but it was probably the most horrific COD experience I’ve ever had being matched against players way above my skill level.
-
Ok thanks. So your EQ is flat?
-
Ok will do…but do I still have to host? In Halo Infinite, if my UK friends hosted and the game tried to put us on US servers then I’d be unable to join the game with my geo filter set to UK only.

Do you have to be lobby host if playing with friends that don’t have R2? On Friday the game felt crisp and I was dominating (UK) lobbies, but played a few games last night and the lag compensation was clearly there and very frustrating feeling like you’re behind other players.

Ok so for clarity, you’re basing this off your past experience of WZ, and presumably getting the lobby KD off COD Tracker? It’s common knowledge that the WZ population has drastically reduced over the last year so it would make sense that there would be fewer lower skill players still playing the game (the casuals are usually the first to stop playing), and when I checked a few weeks ago (hadn’t played WZ in over a year) I was unable to join any UK servers; however I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions about the times and player base without any facts to back it up, but I do know that a lot of streamers play early in the day to get easier lobbies rather than evenings. With regards to streamers, please don’t compare your experience to theirs. We don’t know what a lot of these streamers are doing to influence or manipulate the games algorithms but it’s safe to assume that a lot of them do use VPN, hacks, etc even if a lot of them do not. The average KD of a WZ lobby is exactly that (it’s always a bell curve), and I don’t remember ever getting in many lobbies below 1KD either. If a streamer like Huskers is constantly getting 0.62KD or similar lobbies then it’s safe to assume they are cheating or manipulating the system to some degree to get these “bot lobbies”. You also have to remember that if these high KD streamers are manipulating the game to get in to bot lobbies then that’s a massive drop in skill level for them (ie easy to run around getting high kill games); however a lower KD player like yourself may not see the same degree of drop in skill level…simply because you are one of the bots and there’s not much lower you can go in terms of a low KD playerbase. As such the best you can hope for is that SBMM does it’s job and prevents higher skill level players coming in to your games, so you can play on a level playing field with players similar to yourself and therefore your KD against these players should level out to around 1KD. If what you are saying about your skill level and disability is true, then trying to circumvent SBMM could actually put you at more of a disadvantage. As such and in your scenario…SBMM is your friend. -
Problemas con los servidores de MW2

I’ve only played for a few hours but every lobby was 12-15ms ping on R2, and latency in game showed as 30-35ms. I haven’t experienced any packet loss issues. I’m based in the UK with geofilter set to cover UK only. -

Thanks for the info as it gives some kind of context, however you should know and be reminded that one of the SBMM exists is to protect lower skill level players. As such, it is in your best interests to give it some time and let their SBMM algorithm to do it’s job). Like the streamers, I don’t like or support SBMM, and if SBMM was removed then you may find it could be even worse for you. Basically you shouldn’t be finding those 4-7kd streamers in your lobbies, and the simple reason being that SBMM tries to make all games against similar skilled players so they complain because they always have to play full out. I’ve only played for a few hours and I’ve been dominating lobbies so I don’t think SBMM is strong at the moment or simply haven’t played enough for it to kick in…but saying that, my friend who I played with is a lower skill level player and he’ll be lucky to be above 0.5kd in the same games. This video explains why most players complain about SBMM but also why it’s there to protect players like yourself: -

Nice one. Thanks Fraser 👍

The Ping Heatmap is totally blank for MW2. I’ve done a “resync cloud” but still the server map is empty. Is that an issue at my end or has this just not been populated by yourselves yet?

I agree…it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but apparently it’s a software bug and can cause controllers to freeze. Controller freezes seems to be a common issue, and there are plenty of comments about it on the internet and Reddit if you search for the issue. I only tested disabling VRR a few days ago and so far haven’t had any controller freezes, and it used to happen at least 3 or 4 times per night whilst playing COD (mainly in the menus).
-
Yeah it’s there.

I don’t know how to measure or display FPS on XSX. There’s an FPS counter that can be displayed as part of the monitor but I don’t know if that is accurate and truly represents FPS or refresh rate…but it’s at a solid 120 with or without VRR. It used to fluctuate very slightly when playing MW19 and Warzone but mainly in menus/loading screens as it did with Halo Infinite.
-
Yeah it does. I use an LG 27GP850 monitor. https://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-27gp850-b

I don’t know if there is a way to check FPS on Xbox? All I know is that I get a stable refresh rate of 120Hz on XSX. I do agree with playing with crossplay disabled as a lot (not all) of PC players will have an advantage. I find it very annoying that PS players can disable crossplay in Warzone but Xbox can’t.
-
I think you need to research VRR and see what it actually does. If you don’t suffer from screen tear or misaligned pixels with it off then you don’t really need it.
-
I don’t think you need all those options selected in General Video Modes settings. I’m playing on XSX and only have Allow 4K selected and I’m playing in 1440p at a solid 120Hz. I did used to have VRR enabled however I’ve disabled due to apparently being buggy and causing Xbox controllers to freeze (my Elite2 has been freezing in the last few weeks and have to reboot console). I haven’t noticed any difference visually with VRR disabled so far. Try testing with: Allow 50Hz: disabled Allow auto low-latency mode: disabled (mine is greyed out so can’t be selected anyway) Allow variable refresh rate: disabled (I don’t know why you have a drop down menu there) Allow YCC 4:2:2: disabled Allow 4K: enabled Allow HDR10: disabled Auto HDR, Allow Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision for Gaming are all greyed out for me.
-
Done some more testing with the Mono settings. I think this only applies to those that have a mono audio signal out of there console/PC so doesn’t need to be enabled if you have stereo out (including those that use headset plugged into Xbox controller as this is a stereo signal already).

Obviously this would need to be tested in full release rather than just the beta. How do you force servers in Italy from other locations? Do you just put a poly over Italy on the Geo Filter map? Also if playing in a party, would you have to host the lobby?
