Getting An R3 this week, will my current setup work with it?
Yoda replied to Redflame's topic in Netduma R3 Support
The creds for BT are made up, as long as you pop it in the correct format: Username: [email protected] Password: xxxxxxxx (where xxx can be anything you want) no VLANID required. I hope that helps. -Yoda -

Not a 10/10 hit rate. I have two R3's. I'm not saying the problems people have highlighted aren't real. There are all types of internal network setups out there without even talking about all the different ISPs or connection types etc etc. I get the frustration if it's happening to you and some others, I'm in no way side lining peoples issues. Regarding my experience: One R3 was bought on launch (10 minutes from go live), and another a received a couple of weeks later for a second site i'm at for some of the week. Keep inmind both sites have different ISPs and connections (FTTC and FTTP) but both PPPoE. Never seen a Duma not loading screen on one (on any firmware), and on the other it's happened once after almost two weeks of running .41. I like to add the R3 recovered from this, but I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't power down the unit. Took 35 minutes, but did allow me to get into the UI after. While this was happening I still had internet. On that front, I have never lost internet or LAN connectivity on either units. (There was an issue on the initial launch firmware and setup wizard. However, Netduma support jumped right on it, remoted in and got me passed that screen) - VLAN ID and boot loop issue after going through the setup screens, but that was on like .16 and I was off playing games 10 minutes later. Never seen random disconnects on Wifi on either units. One is in a challenging area, with a lot of competing wifi including from multiple businesses, houses and flats next to a main road with cars and lorries going by all the time. The range of the R3 is a different matter, playing nice with smart devices like a Ring doorbell and devices talking to each other. That needs sorting, but I know Netduma are working on it and am confident it will get resolved. Point 4 regarding guest wifi i get. Ping Optimizer, mine runs on both but mainly sets to 99% so I just adjust this manually to what I want. Steady ping I have been using on both in BF2042 and works but can go a bit wonky after a week for me, so have disabled this for now for testing hit reg using other settings. I don't bother with, or not really tried Geo-filter server restrictions too much on the R3 (just set the circle to 1337, cause you know haha). Basically, pretty much all BF2042 servers are on AWS servers in Germany. However, I get it, It's a feature and other games have servers dotted around the world and it's feature so want it working. I have other gaming routers that I have tinkered with, like most people here who love to game and experiment (x4 routers just in the room I'm sitting in right now (e.g Asus GT-AX6000), without even talking about the ones packed away). Bottom line when all said in done, I find the best hit reg experience with the Netduma units. -YODA

Not until Wednesday at the earliest, I’m away from that location.

I have this ONT with my City Fibre install. On a 500 Up and Down connected to the R3 and get full speeds. Had a GB line before but hardly used it so went to a 500Mbs line. I just set my speeds and made sure the CC is set correctly I always keep SmartBoost on tho!

As @Netduma Fraser has said you might need to fill in the PPPoE section. BT “sometimes” accepts made up username and passwords username: <type in whatever>@btinternet.com password: <fill in whatever> *if that doesn’t work contact BT to ask what your credentials are. just double check the RJ45 connection is going from your BT box to the blue WAN port on the back of your R3.

Depends on your setup etc. We’re seeing posts mainly here of people that need assistance. I get that, if it’s not working for you then it’s a little frustrating, especially if you have a set up in family house with wife and kids on your back about the connection. The flip side of that coin is when it does work. I have two R3’s (one launch and one received a week or two later). These R3’s are at different locations (with FTTP and FTTC connections). I split my week between the two sites. Both work on the whole on .40 and I’ve had some absolutely brilliant hit reg on both R3’s playing BF2042. The main issue I have is with both R3s is Wifi range. Reaching devices like the Ring doorbell for example. Netduma are aware and are taking a 👀. I’m confident things will get resolved. There will be more firmware updates. Resolving issues a step at a time.

For anyone having hit reg problems. Try not to log into Duma OS via Chrome (or other desktop browsers) while gaming. Set it as you want in DumaOS then close the browser, game away. if you want to check what’s going on dip into your phone app to check. Having some pretty decent games like this. So hope it works for others. Yoda

Hello @Netduma Fraser, Under Smart Boost - "Gaming" with star next to it does appear. Gaming Activity widget on the main dashboard doesn't tally up the amount of gaming time correctly tho.
-
Geo-Latency is not disabled Smart QOS - Standard defaults kept - gaming, working from home and “video and streaming”. Yes my gaming PC was added under devices Gaming PC is down as a Computer in Device Manager. Steady Ping is in simple mode right now.

Been using it all day today. Feels epic in BF2042. Nothing disabled (well apart from IPV6 LAN/WAN and the adblocker)

Enjoy!

Just managed to track down the router I think, the orange port is a WAN port.
-
Was just about to say about the orange port. Prolly needs to be one of the yellow sockets.
-
If you can go get into the Duma App. Click on the 3 vertical bars top left. Select the "Settings" icon (looks like a cog bottom left of the screen). WAN > go to the bit that says "Connection type" is "DHCP" selected ?
-
Very true. Didn't even spot that!
-
Are you connected to the R3 wifi when trying the app? Are you getting an error message back when trying to login?
-
Just to add, be careful when putting anything into the DMZ as that device is exposed to the internet without any protection like firewalls etc. However, the R3 is a router with a firewall so that should be ok. However, someone from Netduma would need to confirm.

Ah ok. Openreach ADSL via phone line. Ok with Openreach (at least at one of my places). I have to have either a modem and home hub or an all in one solution (i.e. modem and router in one). Looks like you have an all in one. I think your router (please provide model number) has modem maybe built in?. I think that you will need to put that old black box into "modem only mode" or "bridged". Then you would connect to the R3 to it. Master Socket > Old Modem/router > R3 > all other devices.... *Keep in mind you will need to provide a username and password from your ISP under the PPPoE section of the R3 to get internet. I have to do that with BT Fibre to the cabient which is provided to the flat via a phone line. Another way is you can put "just the R3" in the DMZ: Master Socket > Old Router (DMZ IP ONLY for R3 device) > R3

Are you hardwaring a PC into the back of the R3 to go through the setup wizard? Or trying to set things up via your Mobile? When you say even the app can't get a connection, do you mean the DumaOS app can't connect to the router? (if so are you connected to the R3s wifi?)
-
You'll need to provide more information if you need help. Type of connection? Internet via Phone line (ADSL)?, Fibre (FTTC, FTTP?), Cable modem etc etc.... What service provider are you with? Did you have a modem and router in one before?
-
I might have missed it above but are you on a City Fibre connection? (Using PPPoE) which provider?

Have you tried 70% to see if that helps? Hopefully that will stop it jumping around so much. Ping optimizer, I believe, is being looked into at the moment. Some users cannot use it currently at all for example. Perhaps the R3 had a glitch and just ramped everything back up. Adjust the slider(s), keeping always on, and do a couple of speed test to see if it's limiting your speed accordingly. Some speed test sites have jitter information as well as your speeds. If you weren't aware that 70% was the sweet spot for yours then most people knock off 5-10% at a time on the download/up and retest to find the sweet spot. Just a temp solution until you get Ping Optimizer sorted. Pop back into a game and try.
