richb-hanover
Hi folks, I learned about Netduma from a Google search for "bufferbloat" so I decided to join the forum. I've been following the Bufferbloat project (http://bufferbloat.net) which has been studying exactly these same effects and delivered the fq_codel algorithm to address the same problem. I want to congratulate you. Anti-flood certainly seems to deliver the goods - low latency with full bandwidth. Your blogs (especially https://netduma.com/blog/announcement-unveiling-the-worlds-greatest-qos/) do a great job of describing the problems with lag in networks, and why simple QoS approaches just don't work. The Bufferbloat team members developed a repeatable test suite for comparing anti-bufferbloat measures and wonder if you have made any comparisons using the Real-Time Response Under Load (RRUL) test. The easiest way to try it out is using the Flent tool - https://flent.org/ We'd love to see the comparison. Finally, I want to say that we're on the same side - slaying latency in the home router. Lots of people hunger for a solution to the problem that "the Internet's slow today", and it would be nice to be able to point people toward a reliable, off-the-shelf solution from a vendor that understands the problem. Administrators Netduma Iain Posted December 4, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 4, 2015 Hi Rich, Really sorry about the late reply. Yes I was studying buffer-bloat during my PhD before it had a name. I spent 6 months arguing with my supervisor that the problem actually exists. Please excuse the name anti-flood the whole team regrets it. We actually use fq_codel for higher speeds, that is our reactive algorithm. I'm very busy at the moment with dev on new firmware but I'd definitely love to work with you guys it's a fascinating problem. Have you got the router Rich? If you don't mind can you pm me your email address. Best, Iain
