Something wrong with my R1!! HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Right got a few things i need help with!

First off i cannot get into games on BO3 WHAT SO EVER with a ping under 40/50ms, iv tried using PA exclusively set to 30ms and it does nothing but put in into lobbies by myself which nobody joins and iv been very patient with this as i know it can take longer to find games, iv waited over 30MINS is some cases and nothing!  I have to set my ping to 45/50 to even get a game, and when it does put me into a game my Netduma R1 is telling me that im pinging at 900ms+, which is clearly wrong. ( i know i don't have the best connection in the world but its no way near that bad)

Iv also tried using just the geo-filter and i have it set to about 400MI so it covers the most of the UK but this also makes no difference either, still getting only ever getting 40/50ms lobbies even though the hosts are only a few 100 miles away or sometimes even closer ( also keeps connecting me to hosts out side my geo-filter even though strict mode is ticked most of them US servers), I tested out what my ping would be if i turned the Netduma R1 off all together, and its putting me into lobbies with the same ping, its as if the Netduma R1 isnt doing anything at all any more.

Another thing is that my duma seems to have huge lag, I.E. when i click on setting then miscellaneous it takes about a minute to load the settings page (same when i go back to host filering), when it does eventually load all my settings have been reset! This is hugely annoying as when i put my settings back to what they where it messes around with my Xbox live connection.

It kicks me out of the party i am in and then it wont let me join any party's at all, comes up on the Xbox saying THIS IS BLOCKED, for me to be able to join party's again i have to hard reset everything, Xbox, Duma and ISP router.

Im not sure if its just BO3 im having problems with but when i play different games, star wars battlefront for instance i have a really good connection and a ping of around 25/30ms.

I love my R1 i really do, but this is getting out of hand and i am at a complete loss with what's going on and any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

(sorry if i posted this twice, tried to delete the other post but wasn't sure how lol)

First make sure you follow this guide: http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=fine_tune_netduma

If you've followed this guide, here's a few things to try:

1. Have you upgraded to the latest firmware? If not, go here and follow the directions exactly as listed in the first post: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/9124-major-router-upgrade-now-available-v-1035/

2. There is a setting under Miscellaneous called "Cookies", make sure that's ticked and it will save your settings

3. You will not ping lower than what you're getting if your base ping is high. What I mean by that is you won't ping at 30ms if your base ping is 30ms or higher. You can usually expect to ping anywhere from your base ping + 8-10ms or higher. Go to the Internet Diagnostics within the router and run a test to see what your base ping is. Just an FYI, I normally ping around 40ms which is good for me. It's all in how far you are from the hub. Your speed really has nothing to do with ping. I've seen guys with 10 down and 1 up with 5ms base ping. I have 60 down and 4 up and my base ping is around 30ish. There's nothing the router can do if your base ping is higher.

5. I'm in the US and have Charter for my internet service. Their DNS sucks so I switched to OpenDNS and it reduced my base ping by about 8ms! If you tend to have a higher base ping, look into using OpenDNS, it may help!

4. When all else fails, reboot your router from the Miscellaneous Settings page and clear your Google Chrome cache.

Hopefully some of these suggestions work for you.

Just to add to Alex's suggestions:

Put PA to 0. That will stop hosts outside your radius as well as prevent those 900+ pings you're getting for some reason.

I would recommend putting your radius to ~650miles. Strict on as well as PA on 0 from above.

Reset device prioritisation this should speed up page loading.

Have you added friends to your allow list?

@Alex yes i have the latest firmware and the "cookies" box is ticked, my base ping is 30ms which im very confused about because about a month my base ping was always around 15/20 ms and i remember doing a internet diagmosis test on the Netduma and it would say exceptional for Ping, Jitter and spikes but now when i do test it only tells me that its good for all 3, i have no idea why its now at 30ms+, iv rang rang my ISP and they said there is nothing wrong with my connection,

Where can i find Opendns not sure what im looking for?

@Fraser i have followed your steps and am now using just the geo-filter set to 650miles with my PA set to 0 and have reset the device prioritisation seems to have done the trick for now, and yes my friends are added to the allow list

Thanks you both for the help :-)
