Some people believe that lowering that number gives them an advantage in online games. Thought is by lowering the number they will start dropping packets, which puts them on Lag Compensations good side. It's all rubbish and placebo effect. If you lower your MTU enough to start dropping packets, you are really adding more latency to your network because your modem has to resend the packets you dropped. So when you are gaming, you become the guy who is lagging the whole lobby.

II N3MES1S II Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 You can try a little program called MTUtest it will show you the best MTU to use with your connection. It will tell you all the MTU levels that get fragmented or not, choose the lowest that does NOT get fragmented.
fuzzy clam Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Agreed auto works fine.As soon as the game doesn't run excellent people look for any excuse to change things,MTU,throttling etc. When in reality sometimes the games just plays bad
