Please explain why I get a USA host...

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Last night with these same settings I was getting games from a Netherlands based dedicated server.

I haven't touched the settings, and I appear to be on an American host.

Please see attached image.

I have no idea why it is a dashed circle, as I haven't added this host as 100% quality...

Edit:

I've just refreshed screen and it now displays as a solid circle, I've replaced image.

Thanks

The only way you could have connected to this host is though the ping assist :) The ping assist symbol looks like this, was that what it looked like? :)

Yes it was the Nuke symbol, thanks Crossy.

Though I thought having "Strict Mode" on eliminated the chance of Dedicated server outside of geo filter..?

Also, on the attached image, why do my friends never seem to get host, even though I have them as 100% quality it gives it to other people, who I haven't rated..?

Thanks again for your time and response.

Strict mode means you won't connect to dedicated servers outside your GeoFilter but ping assist overrides that. This link explains the host filtering logic :) Also if the circle in the first screen shot was the one shown in the host descriptor box then it wasn't a dedicated server anyway.

Your friends will only get host if the game tries to give them host :)

If it is a cod game just check the in game settings > system info and check what your location says.

Last week it started connecting me to USA hosts. I then saw in game for black ops 2 it put my location as California (I'm from UK).

My home location in the geo filter was centre of UK also.

I rebooted router and it put it to London. Not perfect but ok. Apparently it's an isp problem you need to contact them if it doesn't sort itself out.

Hope this is useful

I need to check this myself and see where I am based in game.  I don't have any problems getting games, but it's one more thing to just check and make sure.   ;)

Thanks M8

No probs  :)

It did this to me in the BLOPS3 beta - I couldn't get into any games, then I checked in game and saw California!

Dillinger, by the way, (slightly off topic so apologise). I've been playing only BLOPS 2 to tide me over until BLOPS 3. I was thinking of giving AW another try - haven't played it since February!

In your opinion, is it worth it? It was a nightmare before so I gave up because of poor hit detection and the other issues.

I do fancy a change though do freshen things up. If I did start up AW what are your best recommended settings for it?

Would it be the same as Blops 2 - with 0 ping assist small GF, strict mode on etc?

Thanks !

Sorry My Friend, I live outside Seattle and therefor I am cursed to play AW on the Seattle Black Hole Dedi - And thus I DO NOT PLAY AW, because of said dedi.  There are some good threads about trying different settings, but I can't offer much.

I would look to Lukasz or Kevo or one of the young guns who are putting up AW gameplays in the video section and see what they are running.

I'm running Black Ops 2, no toughness on any class, to get ready for Black Ops 3 right now and the GRIND is real.

Ok I might look that up with those guys. If not I'll keep going with black ops 2 as it'll be a like for like change to black ops 3.

No toughness! Brave man. Might try that as normally it's my first choice of a perk!

Von did say though that although there is no toughness, the flinch will be reduced on the final game as it was strong in the beta.

What class you running? smg/ar. Or do you change around?

Personally on every cod launch I always look to one particular gun type and try to stick with it mainly so I get used to the movement of it.
