Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 When running trace routes, I don't know what is considered good and what is considered bad. I consistently see one or two RTT's on the very first hop(the r1) above 10 ms. This seems high to me but I really don't know, thought I'd post here for an answer.
PharmDawgg Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Disregard trace routes because they are not that accurate . Use ping option. It is your best bet. I believe the administrators will be removing the trace route option. Maybe they can speak on this.
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 I used a third party trace route app. My computer is down right now so I know this may not be accurate, just wondering what good numbers are.
PharmDawgg Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Ok. Sorry thought you were referring to the trace route on the router.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 7, 2015 Administrators Posted August 7, 2015 The hop between the R1 and second hop is 10ms?
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 1 r1.lan (192.168.88.1) 6.495ms 24.540ms 28.151ms I also have concern with hop 6 but that is my ISP, sometimes it runs high sometimes it runs normal, the traceroute I just did (same as above) reads this: 6 ae5---0.cor01.chcg.il.frontier.net (74.40.2.205) 20.99ms 130.015 ms 139.984 ms After that all the other hops drop down to sub 30ms
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 7, 2015 Administrators Posted August 7, 2015 If you do an internet diagnosis on the R1 does the trace route give similar results as well?
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted August 7, 2015 Netduma Staff Posted August 7, 2015 Are you connected via Wifi? If so then that could be the reason.
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Had to leave the house, I'll test a hard wired connection when I get back.
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 On the hard wired they are all under .5ms. Sorry, didn't know wifi affected it that much.
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted August 7, 2015 Netduma Staff Posted August 7, 2015 Had to leave the house, I'll test a hard wired connection when I get back. Ok - I think the wireless is the issue for that If I ping my router from my laptop (which is on wireless) then the ping fluctuates between 3-8ms, so not much less than yours
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 On the hard wired they are all under .5ms. Sorry, didn't know wifi affected it that much. On ping diagnostics I can only ever get a ping rating of "good". Anyway to improve this?

Yes wireless can add a little bit on which is one of the reasons it is recommended to play on a hard wired connection If you do then don't worry about the ping from your laptop to the Duma.

You shouldn't find that your games are made any worse because of it really.
Mdbaxte Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Idient want to start a new topic. I saw someone post about disabling IPv6, do I need to do that?
PharmDawgg Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I would and here are the locations --http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=disable_ipv6&s[]=ipv6
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted August 7, 2015 Netduma Staff Posted August 7, 2015 Idient want to start a new topic. I saw someone post about disabling IPv6, do I need to do that? tbh, its only really necessary if your speeds are > than 50mbps
