BSilverthorn Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Just updated to XR1000 1.0.1.82_1.0.67 on my XR1000. When I enable the VPN service using UDP or TCP my router stops routing packets out to the internet. So anything on the internal lan fails to route out to the internet. Once I disable the VPN service on the router everything immediately starts working again. Items I have tried: (more than twice each) reflashed firmware Factory default through web browser Factory default using reset button Created VPN on differnt ports using UDP All three options for connection access as well Router seems fine until I enable the VPN service.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 30 Administrators Posted September 30 This is a NTGR feature so our experience with it will be limited but I can't imagine how that is happening considering there isn't a VPN connection alive until you actually connect a client to it and there are essentially no options for it. Once you've enabled if you just do a reboot is the connection restored and are you able to connect to the VPN?
BSilverthorn Posted September 30 Author Posted September 30 A reboot does nothing. I have not tried to connect yet. Haven’t been anywhere remote. It’s very odd. Once disabled all works. It’s like a kill switch. I can enable and it quits, disable and works on the fly.
Krush Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Cela semble normal ! Si tu n'as pas suivi les instructions pour configurer le client en avale... il perd la connexion !
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 30 Administrators Posted September 30 You don't have to be remote but could you try initiating a connection to it just in case it requires that please? I don't see why it would. What is the model of the modem/router the XR is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the XR? E.g XR in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode. It does require a direct line to the internet so if you haven't done that then that could be a reason it's not behaving correctly.
BSilverthorn Posted September 30 Author Posted September 30 It’s in the DMZ on the backend of a Verizon modem. I’ll try and connect later and see. It’s worked in the past just fine and my other routers work fine mimicking the same setup. Obviously on different ports. Ports are forwarded etc. I can’t get to the testing phase yet as it stops routing per se for all Lan connected devices. I will try when I get back home. It’s offline atm. so to be clear it’s not the client side. It happens when I check the box enable VPN service on the router. Once clicked the lan devices can no longer reach the internet behind the XR. Turn it off and it all works.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 30 Administrators Posted September 30 You said it worked in the past, what happened in regards to settings/hardware changes between then and now?
BSilverthorn Posted October 1 Author Posted October 1 Did a firmware upgrade to the one listed in topic section. Factory reset a few times and thats it. Everything else is the same. Small network, it stays pretty static unless somone brings an xbox over the like. Been the same for a few years. I might try and go back a build and see what happens when I have more time to spend with it. Spent a few hours today trying to figure out when I should have been working ;-).

Yeah do try a previous version and let us know. We certainly don't change anything in the settings and anything we do wouldn't affect it. I know it works as expected on the 500, never personally tested on the 1000 but should work the exact same.
BSilverthorn Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 No go connecting to VPN remotely. It connects but nothing routes. Attached are the iamges, once enabled it looses all internet or does not route packets out. Immediately upon unchecking the check box and applying everything instantly works. Took the router to a friends house stuck in place of his, same issue there as well.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 3 Administrators Posted October 3 Have you got any port forwarding rules that cover the same port shown on the VPN service page/do you have the DMZ enabled? If so disable then try again. Otherwise try another port instead anyway and see if the same occurs
BSilverthorn Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 No DMZ enable, one port forward for a plex server using port 32400 I think. Im going to revert to 10174 and see what happens, since I was fine there. I must be the only one using OpenVPN settings ;-). Going to move to twingate I think for remote access.
BSilverthorn Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 Odd Frazier that this screen never pops up when trying to update the latest beta fix firmware. Just thought of this, it just gets so far and reboots on my other XR1000. Just an FYI. I know not related to this, but doing this triggered that ;-)..
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 3 Administrators Posted October 3 Keep us posted! Perhaps disable any protections in WAN just in case it thinks its an issue and blocks it. The beta fix will be based on the very latest I think so makes sense
