One day of ownership - wifi drop outs, slow speed.

Recommended Posts

Hi, new owner here, moved across from the XR500.

I have BT fibre, plugged direct from fibre modem to R3.

Set up with BT credentials.

Seemed ok initially but currently im seeing really poor stability of the wifi. For example, my laptop was connected just now and fine but my Galaxy s23 would say no internet available and nothing loading,

Speedtests  also seem poor considering it is 1GB Fibre.

few reboots have had to be conducted.

Any recommendations?

Set up with BT credentials does that mean you're using PPPoE on the R3? If so are you able to have the BT hub handle that instead and then see if performance is better?

my wifi used to be working great except for the range was mid compared to the xr500 but now even before updating it keeps disconnecting.(also after updating but i mention it became problematic before the update to indicate nothing changed within the same firmware suddenly wifi went bad)
either:
-one of the wifi channels disappears, often the 2.4ghz but also can happen to the 5ghz
-the device stays connected but says: connected no internet (happens randomly either on 2.4 or 5)
-authentication error when a phone disconnects and tries to reconnect to a channel, can happen to both 2.4 and 5 again.
-lan sometimes disconnects from the internet but that rarely happens, the wifi problem is every day almost 24/7.

have pppoe and vlan, can't use anything else coz it's fiber straight to my duma nothing in between (was given to me)
xr500 had vlan issues where if that was enabled or pppoe with vlan idk. devices couldn't communicate with eachother(like seeing a chromecast) and upload congestion control wasn't working(probably qos upload as a whole). that is why i bought a r3 and those issues seem fixed but now i guess there are new problems tied to pppoe or vlan?

reboots also often don't seem to work, maybe after a couple and sometimes like 5 reboots the wifi works normal for a couple hours.

I don't know for certain whether that would be the cause but potentially using them both might be contributing to it. When the issue happens could you grab the logs from the troubleshooting page in settings please?

  • 3 weeks later...

So, I've set up the Smart hub 2 as the primary, disabled WiFi. Set the R3 into the dmz. R3 has always been on the latest firmware fyi.

All was good for 4 days and just now I could not connect at all to the r3 WiFi with my phone. I could see ssd but could not connect to it at all and have had to reboot the r3 to get WiFi working again. Something odd is occurring.

What did it say when you tried to connect to it? If that happens again please try to grab the logs from router via ethernet prior to rebooting - any helpful information is lost upon a reboot.

On my Samsung S23 It said "unable to connect" not even "connected no Internet" it was visible but was giving me zero access.

I couldn't connect via my tp link Mesh wifi Extender either so that must also have had the same problem as my phone.

I'll hook up with lan next time it happens.

Thanks.

OK, so I've just had a drop out on my phone and proceeded to boot up the PC to look at lan logs.

I cannot access the router via lan during this time either due to:

Now after a few minutes it resolved itself and I can now connect.

I'll see if I can get some logs.

Hey, just an update.

Had a repeated issue again today if wifi drop out during a work meeting. Not ideal.

Laptop reconnected but the WiFi was none functional.

Phone however said connected but Internet not available.

Couldn't log in to duma os

Had to reboot the router. Worked fine after.

Have attached another log file should you need it.

Thank you! Disconnects is something the team are taking as a big priority, out of interest do any of these apply to you:

  1. Use of a network switch
  2. Use of very long ethernet cables
  3. Initiating a large download prior to the disconnect?

Morning Fraser,

No, none of the above I don't believe.

I did try a sort in ascending order on SAP for work but I doubt that should be a cause.

No network switch.

Lan cable is no more than 2m

Okay no worries, also where did you get those logs? It's not anything the router would spit out

Oh, all I did was type in the hyperlink you posted, then what was displayed I copied and pasted onto desktop notepad and saved.

Just had another drop out and unable to connect unless rebooted.
