XR500 Latest Firmware Doubts

Recommended Posts

I'm confused about the Intermediate Firmware and the final Beta Firmware. Everything went good when it comes to using the different links to finally get to the actual BETA but why on the Intermediate Firmware said .135 version like the first image/screenshot I took shows and then says looks like a downgrade with the final BETA firmware .134 version like it shows on the second image??  Thanks in advance.

Quick questions, what is the proper way to do:

1) PING TEST

2) PING OPTIMIZER

3) Use the AUTO-SETUP feature in QOS Congestion Control??

--Every time I try to use any of those it stays in: (SETTING UP) or Starts the Congestion Control test and either stops at TEST #3 or #4 and freezes, or at TEST #1 do nothing and then shows the check mark but nothing was done. Is there a specific things I need to have setup before doing that?? Thanks in advance

We need to do an update, I believe the testing server it's using is out of date and as the server was hardcoded we need an update to change it. I'd suggest changing speeds/Congestion Control manually for the moment.

--That's what I did using Waveform Bufferbloat website.

--Do you have video/tutorial showing how to have OPEN Nat-Type in Call Of Duty?? Changing the NAT Filtering from (SECURED) to (OPEN) didn't change anything in-game. Still showing MODERATE. I already reset NETWORK and FIREWALL in Windows and nothing. I have a Netgear CM1200 Modem too, don't know if that helps. Thanks

Have you ever had an Open NAT with the internet provider you're on currently? It sounds like you're on a CG-NAT which there is a test for at the bottom of this article https://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/articles/16000076587-dumaos-optimal-settings-guide-open-nat

1) Yes I had OPEN NAT with this provider before which is SPECTRUM.

2) Right now I'm connected to the modem itself, ran the test and so far it came back with only one line with a response, the rest keep saying ''REQUEST TIMED OUT'', so if I'm not mistaken based on that, I don't have CG-NAT right??

3) I do have my PC with a static IP set in the XR500 and UPPnP is enabled.

4) Any other suggestion to get OPEN NAT??

The fact you're getting timeouts after the first response indicates there is more than one hop which could indicate you do have a CG-NAT.

If this is the case the only solutions are:

  1. Secure a static public IP from your ISP - this is something that they would usually charge for
  2. Change ISP to one that doesn't use CG-NAT

Got you, ok. fudge man, this MTFs. Don't know why this is happening, I've been with them for quite some time but recently I upgraded to the 1 Gig. package and I believe that's when the issue started happening.

OK, I contacted them and they said that the reason why they can't provide a secure static public IP is because they use a tool that requires the IP and something to do with the PORTS, but none of that can be done because my router is not theirs and they can't have access to it and can only be done if the router is theirs. So they said for me to ask you guys to open the ports or tell me how to do it. 🙈🙄

Can you guide me on how to do proceed with this please? I truly appreciate all the help you've been providing and sorry for the trouble.

Hey @CrAzY_V3t3rAn

Was just curious but did you ask Spectrum if they are using CG-NAT in your case?

Typically they werent using CG-NAT.. But as IPV4 address run out ive learned more and more ISP are going to this to bridge the gap for IPV4 to IPV6..

Thanks!

Zippy.

Hey Zippy, thanks for the reply I didn't asked them directly like that. I told them that after the tests I did (the ones posted above in the link) based on the results I got, it means that I have CG-NAT and the solution for it is you guys (spectrum) to provide me with a static public ip. Tell me how much it will cost me to then move forward with it. And that's when they said what I mentioned in the previous messages above.

You mentioned you upgraded to Gig speeds.. Did you then change your modem as well? I just find this hard to believe your now on CG-NAT.. But yet it can be believable as well because of IPV4 addresses running out. Is your current modem one of those modem router combos all in one the CM1200?

Im just trying to rule anything out.. And think of a possible work around..

Thanks!

Zippy.

When I changed to the 1 gig package, they gave me a modem to use free of monthly charges. That's when I noticed the MODERATE Nat-Type issue in COD. 2 days ago I decided to purchase a new Netgear CM1200 modem and use it with my xr500 upgraded to the latest version. That didn't fixed the issue  then did what it was presented here and well you know the rest hahaha

Okay thanks again! I have the same provider as you..  Did you happen to try and enable IPV6? See if that helps give you an Open NAT..

Basically what I found strange is that when I enable IPV6 on my XR500 I would obtain an Open NAT then.. Something to try if you want.. Does your CM1200 have an interface you can log into? My cable modem is just a plain modem so no interface really to change anything..

Im sure though if you went to Spectrums Business internet you wouldnt have CG-NAT.. As I think then you get assigned a Static IP..

I still would try to enable IPV6 first and see if that helps.. This works on my Xbox series X.. Not sure though if that will work on your PC the same way..

Good to know, so I just enable ipv6 in the xr500, reboot the router, restart the game and that's it?? At least I have more things to try 🤠

That would be correct.. Enable IPV6 on the XR500 and see how it goes.. I dont think you have to reboot unless you feel you need too..

This did work with my Xbox Series X before.. Tomorrow I will hook up my XR500 to see if it still does work like this and report back..

When enabling IPV6 dont use upnp or port forwarding..and no DMZ.. You should obtain an Open NAT.. In the IPV6 section make sure you select Open.. It usually is towards the bottom of the IPV6 setup.. Only do this in the IPV6 setup..

Again this has worked on my Xbox.. If your on PC im not 100% sure it will work the same.. But give it ago! You have nothing to lose..

You might also have to make sure your PC has IPV6 ICMP enabled.. That would be on your PC and not your router.. It uses ICMP to send messages for IPV6 connectivity..

Good luck!

Zippy.

1) I did enabled IPv6 on the XR500 using AUTO DETECT like Fraser mentioned.

2) I enabled the portion needed in windows firewall

3) Ran a test using Test-ipv6.com website and the results were 9/10, the one missing says: ''Test if your ISP's DNS server uses IPv6'' = ''TIMEOUT''

4) Still showing MODERATE in-game. 👎

--- I think it has to do with the ISP. The modem CM1200 doesn't have anything for network settings or tweaks of that nature. Is VERY SIMPLE, unfortunately.

-- What you guys think??

On the IPv6 page there is an option to get the DNS servers from the ISP automatically, if that's not working then you can enter them manually. Once you've done that see if you get open.

-- Based on your answer, I'm guessing I'll have to run the Gibson DNS Benchmark first then use those right?? Top 2, Top 3.
