No, it wouldn't connect to Sky Gigafast. I've used the R3 in DMZ previously. I didn't find it added a great deal to my experience, indeed it caused me issues as I had to segregate my network to accommodate it. This meant some devices then lacked access to other network devices, such as the printer. It also performed worse speed wise than without, other functions were hit and miss. I'm pleased you're satisfied with the device, however it doesn't function correctly for high speed PPPoE connections (the primary connection type in the UK) and until recently had a bug which prevented support for the main domestic alternative in the UK which is DHCP option 61. It's still uncertain whether a DHCP option 61 connection is supported as I was unable to connect, but I'll give the benefit of doubt on that one. As it now stands I have the ONT, the ISP router, a 5-port switch, and 3x Deco XE75s for my home network. I don't wish to add another device into the network using a fudged approach when it should function instead of the ISP router.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 5 Administrators Share Posted July 5 Did you enter PPPoE and Option 61 in at the same time as that's likely needed but if you've made your decision that's fair enough

Be advised, if you go with BT and have the 900mbps FTTP connection that's on PPPoE so you wouldn't achieve the full speed without putting your R3 in the DMZ of the BT hub. duccio
LordofBiggles
@duccio I’ve updated to v4.0.236 and I cannot connect to Sky Gigafast using DHCP. If you want the R3 to replace the isp router then I’d be hesitant to sign up for Sky Gigafast connection.

LordofBiggles
Well I'll be damned. Connected! Used PPPoE connection instead of DHCP. Username "anything@skydsl" and password "anything". Not sure why it is working as everything you look at points to Sky using DHCP instead of PPPoE, but not going to moan. Finally!
LordofBiggles
Internet status seems to disconnect for a few seconds quite regular. Will monitor and advise. Can imagine the screams of annoyance from my 13 year old when playing FIFA if this doesn't settle down.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 27 Administrators Share Posted July 27 Glad to hear that worked! How often is it happening exactly? What firmware version are you on currently?
LordofBiggles
Seems to have settled, though had a major offline period last night when it just wouldn’t reconnect. It was after I had to power off the router to move some things around. When first connecting it seems to be allocating a ipv6 address (I think) in the public ip address. Which doesn’t work well, but then if patient it changes to a normal ip address and works just fine.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 28 Administrators Share Posted July 28 If that happens again reboot the modem, wait 2 minutes, then reboot the R3, wait 2 minutes and see if you get internet then LordofBiggles
