VOIP not working (RingCentral)

Recommended Posts

I work from home and today I'm having a weird issue.

I currently on version 4.0.41 and have not done any changes to my configuration.

Not sure what could of happen but my RingCentral app (a VOIP program I use for work) can make phone calls but no mic or audio is getting thru.

I have the app on both my system and my phone. Both do the same thing.

The PC is connected via Ethernet. I tried also connecting via Wi-Fi and it still does not work. I connected the PC to a hotspot and the program then works.

On my phone, the same thing, connected to my Wi-Fi, it does not work. I connect directly to my carrier and it works.

The RingCentral app was not updated recently (it worked yesterday) so I not sure what could have changed.

I went to RingCentral's website and even went ahead and created Internet Rules for all the ports and still no mic or audio.

Has anything changed? Does any one else have this problem?

Of course I tried also rebooting the Netduma R3 and still nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I keep on getting the following errors in my logs when I make a phone call:

user.notice overwatch-initd:: [0;33m[WARNING]: [0mIllegal attempt to suspend fastpath denied

user.notice overwatch-initd:: [0;33m[WARNING]: [0mIllegal attempt to suspend fastpath denied

user.notice overwatch-initd:: [0;33m[WARNING]: [0mIllegal attempt to suspend fastpath denied

So I have determined that it must be the R3. I went ahead and installed a VPN software on my PC and phone.

Being connected to the network on either device, if I enabled the VPN then I'm able to get audio and mic.

I even manually change the DNS to Google on both devices and it still will not work. It will only work if I use a VPN.

With the VPN enabled I do not get the suspend fastpath denied error on the R3.

I hope this helps. I cannot keep the VPN on due to security issues accessing certain websites for work.

Might be DPI perhaps, if you disable SmartBOOST fully in settings does it work then?

SmartBoost is already disabled (if I don't have this disabled the R3 will lock up from time to time. This has been disabled for over 1 month).

Lets put it this way, I even tried with every and I mean every setting disabled. I disabled the following: IPV6 on LAN/WAN, DHCP, Steady Ping, SmartBoost, Ad Blocker, Spanning Tree Protocol, Port Scan Protection, Syn Flood Protection all at the same time then rebooted just to be sure. I'm still having the issue.

I forgot to mention that I even disabled UPnP and added Internet Rules for RingCentral. That did not work either.

Set a static/reserved IP for the device and see if it helps then please

I set the PC with a static IP (I don't use DHCP on R3) and the issue still happened.

The minute I make a phone call I get in the logs:

user.notice overwatch-initd:: [0;33m[WARNING]: [0mIllegal attempt to suspend fastpath denied

user.notice overwatch-initd:: [0;33m[WARNING]: [0mIllegal attempt to suspend fastpath denied

I'll ask the devs to have a look at those entries to see if it indicates the issue

Thank you. Much appreciated.

One more thing and it should not matter but since I installed the R3 (coming from the R1) my default IP address for the network is 192.168.88.X and not the new preferred 192.168.77.X on the R3

Like I mentioned, the R3 is not doing DHCP and I have a separate device doing DHCP.

I don't see how this could be the issue but perhaps just mention that to the Devs.

When you do VOIP calls are you getting audio and does your mic work?

I can make and receive calls but I cannot hear them and the caller cannot hear me.

Did this start happening over the past week or has this been an ongoing issue?

It started this week.

Tuesday 3/5/24 it was working fine....no issues and then 3/6/24 it stopped working.

I did not do any changes.

Looking at the logs, it looks like you have enabled some port Forwarding correct?

Do you still have UPnP enabled?

Do you have any devices in geofilter?

Is steady ping enabled?

Even though you have smart boost disabled, do/did you have any devices/apps listed?

When I had this issue, I had to remove all devices from Geo-filter, delete all of my port forwarding settings, enable UPnP, enabled smart boost, but removed everything listed within apps and devices, reboot the router, then disable steady ping since it automatically turns back on after reboots.

My settings as of now:

all protections disabled

telemetry data disabled

UPnP enabled

IPv6 disabled at wan

IPv6 ENABLED at lan (only way to fix other errors I had been experiencing)

smart boost enabled in simple mode but no items/apps loaded into it

Steady ping disabled

Geo latency enabled

Since then I stopped seeing those fast paths errors as much, but they still pop up every so often.

I will give your setting a goo by removing the Xbox and disabling the rest (except smartboost as noted). I will also try enabling IPV6 on LAN. Basically I'm going to follow you settings to a tea and see how it goes. Thanks for your feedback.

Wow....Crazy.

I tried disabling everything before and it still did not work,

That being said I had disabled not my port forwarding rule (i don't have any) but I had Internet rules, but I kept them there disabled.

I tried disabling/enabling uPnP and that made no difference.

In Geofilter just a XBox is listed.

Steady Ping is off.

WTF!!!!!!!

I deleted the internet rules, enabled SmartBoost and UPnP was already enabled. I also delete the Xbox from the geo-filter before.

I reboot and it is now working again.

Thank you SOOOOOOOOO much.

The only thing I fear now is that I had SmartBoost disabled because it would my my router unstable to the point where I had to reboot the router every three days or so. Sometime once a day. As you can imagine everybody in the home was PISSED (even though it easy to power-cycle).

I will try to leave it on and see if it reboots again.

I have to choose my battles, or have my VOIP work or get blasted by the family everyday because the internet locks up......I tell you.

Thank you once again.

They believe they know what the issue is and it'll be fixed in the next version

I really hope so.

Spdsk8race advice (Delete the internet rules, enable smart boost, enable UPnP, reboot the router and try again) made it work.

Not sure why but it worked.

I just hope that my device wont keep on locking up like before because I enabled SmartBoost. Finger crossed.

The internet rules broke my Internet speeds completely, literally cut them by half. No idea why, I disabled the RGB lights and as long as I i don't refresh the geofilter filter every day I haven't needed to reboot the router (minus my Xbox not wanting to use the ports i manually opened for it when I have geofilter enabled
