UK_Wildcats_Fans
Playing COD MW3 and my in-game ping was 47ms. The other people in my party had similar in-game pings. It was definitely a Texas server. I don't know why I had a 178ms ping with R3. The game played terribly. This is the first time seeing this with Steady Ping disabled.
Spdsk8race
Because you had filtering disabled???
Jazze78
Thats happend for me also sometimes when i connection to London or Amsterdam. I think its just a bug. Have nothing to do with geo-filtering.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 22 Administrators Share Posted February 22 Based on the ID it does look to be a Texas server definitely. Most CoD servers don't respond to traditional pings so we try to be clever, the ping reading here may be because some hops along the way have timed out, pushing up the average, I'll double check with the team though. UK_Wildcats_Fans
When this happens, the ping is always around 170ms. This makes me wonder whether it is getting confused with an authentication server in the UK
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 22 Administrators Share Posted February 22 It says ping method traced rather than direct so it's likely what I mentioned. If you do tracert 206.217.203.170 in command prompt, do you get similar results?
UK_Wildcats_Fans
Using tracert, I did see some timeouts. I messaged you the results from the tracert for the Texas server and one to www.google.com as a comparison.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 23 Administrators Share Posted February 23 Thanks for that, it's a tricky one, the in game ping seems to be showing the last ping response you got from the trace, they match up pretty well. However, you said the gameplay was terrible, was it laggy, did it feel more like 170ms?
UK_Wildcats_Fans
It did not feel like a 170ms server gameplay. It felt more like a game with lots of packet loss. It was very inconsistent. Sometimes it felt good, and then there would be periods of lag. I have the in-game ping, packet loss, etc. network tools always displayed on the screen. I did not see any packet loss displayed on the screen.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 23 Administrators Share Posted February 23 Interesting, tough to figure out what might be happening here, I suspect the ping on the Geo is high due to the timeouts, the server itself just may be a bad one, add it to your denied list and any further that crop up
