Finally got my RMA router and this new firmware is not checking the boxes.

  • Wi-Fi on this thing drops out on my PC, personal and work laptops, my gf's personal and work laptops. Mobile phones seemed to stay connected but had delayed comms compared to off Wi-Fi
  • Wi-Fi speed using Wi-Fi 6 mode is..... abysmal. Going to be looking at buying my own TP-Link mesh setup at this point since I have seen a lot of complaints regarding Wi-Fi
  • Geo-Filter was a hot mess, tried using the ping assist with and without geo-latency and I was seeing servers get blocked that I easily would be able to hit in that ping range. I was generous with my range too incase of instability on the servers.
  • The stead ping never activated on any of my games either, seems to be having issues pinging the servers on COD for some reason, tested on Apex Legends, Overwatch 2. I believe Tekken is all P2P but I did notice that the Tekken Fight Lounge was seeing the dedicated servers so that was very cool to see.
  • Really hoping the next update focuses on the ping optimizer, VPN and Geo-Filter a little heavier. Unfortunately with working remote this week I had to pull the device from my setup temporarily until I can test tonight without work being compromised. Overall, happy to have the unit back but there's definitely some work to be done.

My offer still stands to help future beta testing and deployments, I do believe my ability to deep dive and grab logs and wireshark my devices would help out immensely.

  1. If you give the devices reserved IP addresses on the router does that still happen?
  2. What speeds are you getting? If you try with different widths do you get any higher?
  3. What ping range were you using?
  4. Steady Ping won't necessarily work with every game/in every game, it's something we're working to expand but there will be a limit
  5. I'm not sure exactly what will be in the next update at present but I know the team are doubling down on the more pressing issues.

Any logs/captures you can provide is always helpful thanks!

I will play with the Wi-Fi tonight after work to answer those.

3. 0-35ms. The servers nearest to me on the heatmap were all under 30, I gave the extra 5ms for variance in server latency.
4. Steady Ping typically works in COD, last night it was completely miss.

At 0 Ping Assist would be off traditionally, so I wonder if it's making it behave weirdly, try it with 10-35, does it work better then?

I know the servers are a bit worse at the moment due to season 2 so give it a try at a less populated time perhaps and see if it is more consistent.

Negative, tried ping assist with 5-30, 10-35 and 15-45 and nothing changes. I tried putting my home in colorado and setting it on the western border to grab Utah and it did, but it doesn't ping assist other low latency servers. Splitting the wifi definitely helped but the 2.4ghz channels are all slow, like 30/30 slow still.

Update: The ping heat map needs an update, there are clusters for Utah and Chicago that have much higher latency than ping heat map advertises and the block feature on servers on the app does not work. So using polygons or circling the area is going to give inconsistent results. Would be nice to see ping assist work like it used to especially when partying up it helps with playing on the servers I know my friends connect to that luckily are also low ping for me.

I just played a game on a server in Chicago that said 13ms ping and the ping in game was 32ms??? There's no way the server and UI has that much overhead. I think I may pull this router until HybridVPN is available and the geo-filter and everything is worked on. My game feel more laggy and unresponsive compared to my UDM Pro setup and directly through the isp gpon.

Does changing the width for 2.4GHz not help with the speed at all? If you could provide the IDs of the servers we can get them moved. Are you waiting a few minutes after blocking for the connection to be severed before searching? If not the connection won't be severed and will persist.

That ping is normal, in game includes processing delay, anywhere from 10-30ms in addition is fine, anything above would indicate heavy load.

I blocked it while once I connected to it in the lobby, backed out, waited for the connection to be severed and still no block. I changed to 40mhz when I split the bands and that is the speed I'm getting. I normally wouldn't care how much bandwidth 2.4ghz gets but thats my IoT band that I run my cams on for home surveillance. 5ghz is fantastic it's just the 2.4 that I see issues with.

I have also some weird issues with my ping being insanely higher than usual but I honestly cannot pinpoint if it is the MW3 Season 2 update or the router.

When I use VPN, my ping goes down by half. I usually get 90-100ms on OZ servers but recently it has gone to 150-200ms for some games. Very random.

Either my ISP routing has somehow changed or something is up though I would like to say I have had this problem before even on my XR500 and it was due to my ISP routing so I am not sure. Just my experience so far. Local servers I have no issues so I think it could just be the routing. I just wished there was a better way to run Exitlag or VPNs in general through the R3 so that everything can be prioritised properly. You guys should really look into that I think there is great potential. Exitlag seems to work the best for me so far.
