Downloads on Xbox Not Working

Since installing my R3, I’m having an issue with downloading games on my Xbox. The download goes for a few seconds, then drops down to 0 mbps, then starts again, then drops down to 0 again.

My download speeds aren’t being throttled by my ISP. Downloads still work on my other devices.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see you have two topics for this, let's continue in this one. Give the Xbox a reserved IP on the R3, then reboot the console does it get a connection then? Also is it connected via ethernet or WiFi and is there a difference in whether the issue happens depending on how you're connected?

I think I have isolated the issue. Whenever I have a download going on my Xbox and put the xbox in sleep mode, the xbox loses connection to the internet at some point and is not able to regain connection unless I reboot the router.

I have assigned a reserved IP to the xbox.

Yes. But obviously I don’t want to have to reboot my router every time my Xbox is trying to download updates while in sleep mode. Why is the router shutting off internet to my xbox in this case?

Hey @therealzome

Im trying to follow what you have going on here.. Heres my question.. If you fully shut down the Xbox and not the router do your downloads work okay then? In other words you would have to take the Xbox out of sleep mode and the Xbox would only download while its powered on..

Would your downloads work okay then out of sleep mode and the Xbox powered on?

You likely would have to take the Xbox out of sleep mode prior to a download as im not sure this would work doing it on the fly!

Thanks!

Zippy.

If I’m downloading a game on my Xbox, and i put my xbox into sleep mode while the download is going, the next time i go to start up my xbox it is disconnected from the internet and will not reconnect unless I reboot my router. The download is also incomplete due to the xbox disconnecting from internet while in sleep mode.

This is an issue with the R3, never happened on my XR1000

Thanks for the info! Im just trying to think of a work around for this until this can get looked into further.. You mentioned you have reserved the Xbox.. What I would try as a work around for the moment is take the Xbox out of the Reserved in the R3 and go into the Xbox and set a Static IP there instead.. But this time when you make this change pick an IP address that is outside of the DHCP range on the R3.. Example would be 192.168.77.50.. That would keep the Xbox out of the DHCP renew and release range.. This could be a DHCP issue at a guess of course.. Thats what I would try as a work around if you want to.. Its totally up to you..

You can try this as it is but typically though I would do a factory reset to the router then do this.. But if you do decide to do this make sure you set the Static IP on the Xbox first before resetting the router.. Otherwise you likely will have the same issue..  You can also quick try it now without factory resetting the router just to see if that gives you a better out come..

Again thats just what I would do..

This may or may not work.. Just trying to give you some options and help.

Thanks!

Zippy.

A dev has asked me to get your router ready so they can enter it remotely and have a look at what is going on.

If your ISP modem/router has WiFi, set it up so that it is in bridge or modem mode, you can also use the DMZ. Copy the WAN IP from the R3 (found in Settings > WAN) and enter it into the DMZ function on the ISP modem/router. Once you've done that, enable remote support on the R3 in Settings > Troubleshooting. Once you've done that post back here from a device connected to the R3 please.

Sorry for the delay, the dev wasn't able to connect at the time. Could you double check all those settings are still done please and post back when it's ready so they can connect tomorrow?
