Hi just got a brand new chrome cast device.

When connecting to a WiFi network my 2.5ghz network shows up but the 5ghz network does not show up for some reason.

The router is 1 foot away so it’s not that.
how can I get it to show up please?

Are you using Mirror Mode for WiFi or have you disabled this?

Mirror mode is disabled mate. Both separate the 2.5 and the 5.

every other device picks it up but not the chromecast for some reason. I want to connect to the 5 for faster speeds

Just to be sure, your version of chromcast accepts wifi5...?

"Chromecast (1st gen) is only compatible with 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. 5 GHz networks are therefore not listed during device setup. Check that Chromecast is using the 2.4 GHz band. Chromecast (2nd Gen) is compatible with 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. All these networks are therefore listed when configuring the device. If you have a dual-band router, you need to disable AP isolation. Other devices, such as your laptop or desktop computer, can use the 5 GHz band. This optimizes the performance of the Cast extension to cast a tab."

Is it accessible on channels 36 to 48?. The R2 does not distribute DFS channels!

Yeah I’ve just read that mate. Will changing my band to 36 affect me negatively in anyway? When gaming or anything?

How do I do that bud? Btw changing band to 36 has worked.

I meant choose a channel between 36 and 48 (either 36 or 40 or 44 or 48) I have the problem on my smartTV, only its channels are acceesible (Wifi5). With Wifi analyzer, I checked which channel was less congested (neighborhood) and I selected the best of the 4 offered!

Thanks mate. What does the band actually affect? Speed? Ping?

Nothing ! except if everyone around you (neighbors) uses this channel! .. Hence the interest in choosing the least used channel!
