GregC
Hello I have the R2 version with the latest software. My question is in regards to the PlayStation 5 " Test Internet Connection" "speed test". I have 500/ 20 speeds with my Internet Provider, speed tests with the R2 range from 400- 500 DL and 19- 23 UL . However when i do a test on the PS5 console it is significantly less in the Upload Speed, generally 2-5. The question is, up until 2 weeks ago i was getting closer to 20 on my upload speeds. I contacted Playstation since i noticed this change after they just recently updated their software but they claim it's not on their end and to check with my ISP. I have tried all the usual steps from rebooting/ shutting off and on and lastly resets. I am at wits end trying to resolve this issue, your help is appreciated. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted April 20, 2023 It's working noting the console speed tests are an estimate, I believe it says that on the test itself so it won't always be accurate. Just to clarify, on a PC you are seeing the proper upload speeds? If you do an upload on the console what speed is it uploading at? That would be the easiest way to tell if the upload is actually limited or just reported incorrectly.
GregC
On my pc the DL speeds are +/- 30mbps of 500 and UL is +/- 5 of 20mbps. I pay for 500/20. The only place I'm not getting the correct UL speeds is on the PS5 internet connection test. Up until 2 weeks ago the speeds on this particular test was dead on accurate. Now, It is still showing the correct Download speeds but the upload speeds are only a 1/4 of what they were until then. I'm providing a screenshot of the Speedtest from Netduma and one taken a few minutes later on the PS5. The reason i was checking my PS5 Connection speed in the first place was because game after game ( cod mw2) i was getting instantly killed and i wanted to check my connection. During these games i couldn't even get a shot off, which led me to wonder if something was up with my speeds. That's when i noticed my upload speeds suffering on the PS5. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted April 21, 2023 It is highly likely that QoS is affecting the test, if you disable QoS/Traffic Prioritization does the test report closer to expected speeds?
DARKNESS
BRO I NEVER HEARD SOMEONE CRY OVER SOME MBS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR RUNNING 500MBS IF YOUR TESTING THROUGH PSN SERVERS THEY'RE NEVER ACCURATE IN ADDITION YOU HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR YOUR ISP THROTTLING YOUR SPEEDS WHY DO YOU THINK IT TAKES 3 MINUTES TO SHOW UR UPLOAD? GregC
Not crying that's for sure, just trying to figure out what's going on. I realize the PS5 test is not per say accurate, but for months it was pretty dam close. So I've been trying to see if it could be the router, my last check box is to see if my iSP provider is throttling me. I just know the ISP provider will blame the router and i want to rule this out. I pay good money for those speeds and want my monies worth. Lastly, if it turns out to be just a broken PS5 Connection test then it is what it is. Answering to netduma, i disabled the qos and didn't see any different result. Sony told me to make sure certain ports were open which i did. I realize there are more important things in life. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted April 21, 2023 The only other thing on the router side I could think would be the Geo-Filter maybe blocking a server, if you disable that do they increase?
Fuzy
@GregC I don't have a PS5 handy! Has there been a recent PS5 FW update? "I sometimes had the case on XBOX" I don't know if the PS5 has a stream function, but you can try sending a large file from your PS5 to your local PC and see what upload speed you get! Otherwise you can easily check by doing a wifi test to see if it's not coming from the PS5's ethernet. Or live on your ISP router !
GregC
Yes PS5 did a major update right before this issue began. I contacted Sony and they washed their hands of this and said it couldn't be them. I swear it is though. Thanks

Thanks Check by doing an actual upload from the console, if it goes faster than the reported speeds then you can just ignore it
GregC
Fraser, of i use the internet browser on the console the speeds are within my paid range, obviously sometimes lower, sometimes a bit higher. As you may or may not know, the ps5 doesn't have an app to access the internet, however i used a work around to check. Thanks Fuzy
