What does ICMP-PING DO IN TRAFFIC PRIORITIZATION?

I did some research I understand it tracks packets but is that pretty much what it does when port selected on a device just curious since info is vague

It prioritizes running a ping to another device/service basically, not too much need to do that in a home environment really
