PharmDawgg
I need help with setup. I'm am going to connect my ISP router/modem combo to my Asus rt-68u(wan port). My router/modem has the router portion turned off so it is just like having a modem. Second I am going to connect with an Ethernet cable one of the lan ports of the Asus to the POE port of the Netduma. Thirdly place me Netduma in DMZ mode and connect all my devices to the Netduma. Q1. My Asus router address is 192.168.1.1 and my Netduma is 192.168.88.1?
Adam
what is your connection bandwidth/ speed? As ideally you would want the set up to be modem>R1>asus as if you are placing the R1 in the asus' dmz then connecting everything to the r1 the asus is not actually doing anything or am i missing something here? I assume you want it for wifi maybe ?
Guest Netduma_Iain
Like Adam said if its being put in modem mode you can remove it completely. Secondly even if you do want to keep it, when its in modem mode there is no need for DMZ anymore.
PharmDawgg
I was just a little concerned with the wireless coverage of the Netduma with it not having any sort of external antennas.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Oh ok, if that's the cause I'd swap them round and you have the perfect set-up so: Modem <-> Duma <-> Asus <-> everything else But the Asus must be in bridge mode
Guest Netduma_Iain
Oh yeah forgot to mention, disable the wireless on the duma. Its in "Settings > Wireless". Chose disable and click apply
PharmDawgg
Can you shed a little more light on Asus in bridge mode and which ports to connect the ethernet cables between the asus and netduma? Sorry I am a little clueless on these things.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Sorry mate I misread your original post. I'm not sure if the Asus has bridge mode. But I'd recommend you do this: Modem <-> R1 <-> Asus <-> Devices Anything wireless connects to Asus and anything wired(please make your consoles wired) connects direct to R1. Then you get full benefits of the duma and have an open NAT
lilstone87
Well I was a bit busy today, and Buck Nasty sent me a PM on the site. However I wasn't able to respond when he sent it. Now I have a bit of time on my hand's, so I will add my two cents on this matter. As the guy's above posted I would recommend this setup. Modem/router(you said it's in bridge mode aka no router function)<->R1<->Asus(in AP mode, if it is being solely used to provide wireless). With the setup above, the R1 will function as the primary router, and DMZ will not be required. With the Asus in AP mode it will provide wireless to your devices, but the R1 will provide IP Addresses for devices connected to the Asus. Also the lan ports on the Asus will be usable like a switch if extra ports are needed as well . Just remember modem port to the PoE port of the R1, and one of the R1's lan ports to the Asus wan port. If you have any added question's I will answer when I can. As currently, the suggested setup. Is almost exactly the same for me right now. As I have my Modem(Motorola SB6183) connected to my R1, and my Asus AC87R connected to the R1 in AP mode.
