I lose connection downstairs on my normal 1gb router (virgin), so I now have boosters which has sorted the issue, but will the R2 still allow the booster to connect, if I started using it again as I haven't used it since I moved houses.

I think the boosters are just standard extenders so in theory they should work just fine with the R2 yes

How are the extenders connected?

if wired I can’t see and issue.

They are top spec for the 1gig Internet. They aren't connected by ethernet. I had to be close to the virgin router to connect but once connected, I could place them in the locations where I struggled.. I will give it a try
