lukasz Posted December 29, 2014 Share Posted December 29, 2014 If you are actually using Wireless AC, or the 2.4Ghz band is saturated in your area then you are going to need to keep using the TP LINK as an Access Point. To do this you will hook up your system as follows: Virgin Media Superhub (bridge mode) <-> R1 (WiFi Off) <-> TP LINK setup in bridge mode with wifi enabled On TP Link you will do the following: Step 1. Disable DHCP Step 2. Disable Firewall (if present) Step 3. Specify the Gateway Step 3.1. 192.168.88.1 by default and DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 192.168.88.1 (might fail) This will allow you to get the most out of the geo-filter and the congestion control (QoS) systems built into the R1. I believe the R1 now supports your speeds so there is no reason it shouldn't be your gateway. Thanks! For DNS: 1. Go to http://192.168.1.1in your web browser 2. Click "Interface Setup" 3. Click "Lan" 4. Scroll to the bottom it says "DNS" 5. Change dropdown to "Use User Determined DNS Only" 6. in the first boxes do "8.8.8.8" in the second do "8.8.4.4" Looking up gateway instructions now. You can have the R1 run through the asus, the only downside is that the R1 can't control devices not connected to it. This means the congestion control(anti-flood & device prioritisation) will not be able to operate on those devices. Meaning that if those devices download/upload heavily they could impact your game ping. Hope that helps. Would I have to change some settings for this to work out of the box? If I understand correctly, if you are talking about turning off the WiFi on the asus router and using the R1 WiFi so you therefore have all your devices connected to the R1 via wire or wireless then yes. What i understand when i get R1 i shoud conect it to my virgin super hub then turn off wifi on R1 then connect my Wdr3600 TP LINK go to settings and there enter new getaway and dns. Yup, need to disable dhcp, disable wireless. Iain will correct me if I'm wrong here but I think the Duma knows when another router is upstream. Its usually coloured a different colour to all the other ones(yellow in most cases) or it says "Modem mode" above it. So just to be clear R1 port 1 connects directly into modem port on virgin router. Then after you've done that, switch off the virgin router and the R1. Then turn on the virgin router, wait a few mins. Then turn on the R1 and you should be connected!
