Internet Disconnects…

Since y’all won’t read / approve my post on troubleshooting topics I’ll post this here… I have been having issues regarding my Netduma R2 router for months. The current modem I have is a DOCSIS 3.1 (E31N2V1) . I am able to reach the router interface and have internet connectivity (rarely). I have followed every single step from the support page regarding poor internet connection/ connectivity. I have factory reset my router plenty of times and it works for a few then just goes out on me requiring to reset again and again. I'm looking for a replacement because I have tried absolutely everything listed. There is no issue with my ISP since I even had a service tech properly check outside connections. Using the Cat6 Ethernet cord provided also happened to be broken because I cannot receive more than 100 mpbs with the provided black cable. It also seems like the ethernet connections at the back of the router are extremely loose even after being pushed in all the way. I had to switch out to my own Cat5e cable pushing my desired speeds. Very frequently it seems like the router cuts out for a split second causing me to sometimes be kicked out of ranked competitive matches. I have tinkered around with the QoS and have already updated to the newest firmware (3.2.453) for weeks now. I have already sent an email through the support page but it's been over 2 weeks and no response.

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry about that, we did actually miss that, it wouldn't have been approved as it does say if you haven't been asked then it won't be and to post in the normal support forum so thanks for doing that!

When you get a disconnect could you get the log from the System Information page please? Some routers can be particular about the way they are booted, if you reboot the modem, wait 2 minutes then reboot the R2, wait 2 minutes and it should get a more consistent connection.

Sorry to hear about the ethernet cable, it must have been a faulty one, I don't think that has occurred before. How did you do the email exactly from support.netduma.com? I don't see any tickets from your forum email there.

Thank you for getting back to me, I'm going to attach the log file to this reply so you can closely review what's going on. To sum it up, I get random cuts throughout the day. my ping would spike like crazy while no ones using much of the bandwidth. Download speeds are well over 400 Mbps aswell. I have ruled out that the router is the issue here. Specific errors where I'd have no connection at all is this

kern.info kernel: [367754.281996] ieee80211 phy1: Hardware restart was requested

That's interesting, since upgrading the R2 to the latest firmware have you factory reset the R2?

Do these disconnections occur according to any kind of pattern, or when any device/traffic is generated on the network?

Yes, after upgrading the R2 I most definitely factory reset the router plenty of times. Every time these disconnections occurred I would reset the router. Also these disconnections occur at a random, but it surely is a few times per day. There are hardly any devices on my network as well.

After browsing on other forums I looked for possible solutions. I did change my DHCP Lease time to 168 hours. Also I do not have guest wifi turned on. Only 5G WIFI turned on since I thought solving the issue would be fixed by disabling 2G. I mainly use a LAN connection when working or gaming on free time . On wifi, surely like 2 phones, a laptop and gaming console. (not being used concurrently)

After disabling the main WiFi, I managed to get the devices connected to the guest WiFi internet, but the random disconnects would still occur. It’s not a wifi issue since the disconnects happen on LAN aswell. I would get random spikes in ping hitting up to 999ms …(feels like someone’s manually unplugging the Ethernet cable and plugging it in real quick). There is a post similar to mine that I found, with the given errors I previously posted aswell. I will post it below:
