Others get connection interrupted when I host with 1g up/down

Recommended Posts

So I have 1 gig upload and download speed, using the XR1000, yet when I host a game of cod everyone constantly sees connection interrupted?   I’m using cat 6 cable, wired directly to ONT, to XR1000, to PC.  I’ve pinged my AP using Cmd prompt up to 100 packets, and it shows 0% loss.  I’ve used QoS, and now about to try completely disabling it I guess. I have my PC with a reserved address, using DmZ.

IP is set to get dry basically from ISP

 using google DNS

with default address for router MAC address

Also have UPNP on.

You mentioned an AP, are you referring to the XR or do you have an AP connected to the XR?

Gaming barely uses any bandwidth so I'm surprised you're having that issue, it may not be router related but could you provide a screenshot of your QoS page please with how it is usually set? Are you trying to use the Geo-Filter while hosting?

I've actually just finished factory resetting it (once again) and downgraded to the previous firemware  (.58)

As of yet, I haven't changed anything at all except in "WAN Settings" I've switched "Nat Filtering" from secure to open.

What I plan on doing, is now going into LAN Settings and it currently says

IP Address: 192.168.1.1
SUBnet: 255.255.255.0
RIP Direction: Both
Rip Version: Disabled
Use Router as DHCP Server (checked

I plan on changing the STARTING IP Address from 192.168.1.2 -> 192.168.1.5
And leaving the ending IP Addresss where it's at: 192.168.1.254

I then plan to add and Address Reservation for my PC: Which will be 192.168.1.111

And if i need to set any more reservations, will do them as 192.168.1.112, or .113, and so on and so forth.  (This is right?)

Then i plan to set DEFAULT DMZ to the PC IP (192.168.1.111)

Leaving UPnP OFF, and not using port forwarding.

I plan to also make sure QoS is fully disabled.

in th actual internet setup tab
Internet IP Address - Kept at default which is "Get dynamically from ISP"

Domain Name Server: I plan to switch from "Get Automatically from ISP" --> "use These DNS Servers"  and setting
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4

And Router Mac Address will be left at "Use Default Address"

Is there anything i'm missing? or need to do additionally or not do?   The whole goal is to avoid any high ping/latency scenarios, avoid disconnecting, while gaming and streaming for long periods.

With the ability to host lobbies, and not have everyone getting connection interrupted  Have even played vanguard solo (which is on dedicated servers) and expreience the random lag spikes before i reset, so it's definitely something that was on my end not theirs.

There's no harm is reserving IP addresses for devices, but I don't believe it's the cause of your problem and won't be the direct solution.

If you are going to reserve IPs, set the minimum DHCP value to something like .100, then give devices IPs below 100 so they're not in the DHCP pool.

After the reset, let us know how it's feeling. If you're still having issues we can look into it further.

So I can set their IPs to something like .099.  And another device to .098, and then .097?   That works right?
