I gifted a friend an R2 to try and help improve his not so great internet due to location.

Recommended Posts

My friend lives in Kentucky and to paint a picture of his location, closest town is 20 miles away and the neighboring home about 10 miles in between. I really did not know what type of internet he had before I gifted him the R2, I probably should have found out this before purchasing the router. He has tried to setup the R2 and has had no success. He’s time is also pretty limited so I told him that I would try and get some information. The type of internet he has is cellular home internet which I know very little about, I’m guessing it is received from a cellular tower. So if anyone can help, just let me know what information you need to diagnose this issue and I’ll retrieve it and hopefully we can get this solved. Thanks!

I'm assuming the issue is that he's not getting any internet through the router? He must have something the R2 can plug into, such as a port in the wall or a router that has an ethernet port, could you find out what that is please? Also assuming it is plugged in correctly, in order to get internet through the R2 you need to access the interface and complete the setup wizard, has that been done?

Spoiler

Ok so I worked with him most of the night last night and everything is setup right as far as I know. We ran a speed test before we setup QOS and his speeds are 25 down 25 up and his ping was 62. He is getting Type 2 for his NAT type on playstation which I had to inform him that means his NAT is pretty much open. I believe thats correct. This putting his playstation into DMZ mode. The proble was when he tried playing COD Vanguard, his NAT was moderate and his ping was like 130. He told me to let you know the internet he has is through AT&T U-Verse and its fixed wireless. His modem is a Pace 5268ac.

Great to hear you were able to make progress! You may have already done this which is why he has an Open NAT on the console but copy the WAN IP from the System Information page and put that in the Pace DMZ, that will help with NAT. It's also possible the Geo-Filter is causing a misreading on the game itself as the console is actually open, this wouldn't affect the ping or game negatively.

Has QoS and the Geo-Filter been setup as that will be the two features that will help lower the ping as much as possible.

Yes we set both geo and qos. We he runs the connection benchmark test, he gets A rating for speed test, a D for ping and for some reason the ping under load will not resister, it does nothing. So would that mean something in qos is not setup correctly? I’ll have to get back to you on putting the WAN IP in the Pace DMZ.

I apologize about taking so long to respond back, I was actually in a car accident on the 22nd and I just got out of the hospital yesterday. Soon as I speak with my friend, I will get back with you. Again, thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear that, hope you're recovering well!
