Alias 1aB
everything was working fine. Cable internet was getting a lot of missing packets lately so I called the ISP since rebooting the cable modem was not helping and had them reset my cable modem and IP. Now the R2 wont detect an internet connection. I first factory reset it from within the browser, waited minutes for it to reboot, and then even pushed in the reset button for 30 secs after I unplugged it and plugged it back in when nothing changed. NADA! still says it cant detect an internet connection. I was going through the setup wizard too on edge browser. After the 5th try, I gave up. In the past if it said no connection, unplugging and re-plugging it back in has fixed this. However this time, it wont connect. And I know it's not my cable modem because the TP-Link AX1800 which I use as an access point is working fine in router mode right now. That's how I am online right now. Lots of others are seeming to have this same problem. There must seriously be a hardware or software flaw in the R2 for this to happen to so many. I hope you guys have a solution to this. If one of those is to turn IPv6 off on my cable modem, I don't think you can. It's a Motorola MB 8600. The only solution I have is to wait 24 hours and pray the IP address of the router clears from the ISP that is tied to the MAC ID of the router so I can try connecting it again. The R2 router has had the same IP for the past 4 months since I got the Motorola MB 8600 modem. Cable modem IP changes every time you reset it but the router never does. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 24, 2021 Administrators Share Posted October 24, 2021 Some modems/routers can be finicky about the order in which they are brought online, I suspect this is one of those times. Make sure the modem and R2 are both connected, reboot the modem, wait 2 minutes, then reboot the R2 from the interface, wait 2 minutes, do you have a connection then? Alias 1aB
Yea, i had figured that out when i first changed out the modem. I have to wait 3 to 4 min after rebooting the cable modem before i can power up the R2. Its the only way the R2 would find the internet connection. But yesterday even that didnt work. I will try powering up both devices at the same time tonight, then log into the router and reboot it. Lets see if it works then. I really hope your next firmware update can fix many of these prevalent issues. I know people want quick fixes but i would rather you guys fix it right and test it thoroughly rather than rush something out. Better for everyone in the long run. Alias 1aB
Just as I suspected. 24 hours went by. Now the R2 will connect. I turned both the cable modem and R2 on at the same time. It was connected to the internet before I even had to go through the setup wizard again. So any ideas on why this particular router has this issue with some ISPs? Does it have anything to do with IPv6? I did notice when I logged into the cable modem that it was not showing an IPv6 address like it did before. It can occasionally be an issue with IPv6, it's worth disabling if you're not using it. The only times we've found compatibility issues with certain ISPs is when they use VLANs to establish connectivity, we're working on adding this functionality for our next firmware.
