ShadowMonarch
I am in the UK and have EE Broadband. The R2 Router is connected to the EE Router and in the EE UI I have set the R2 to have a static IP address. Every so often I would lose Internet on the R2 Router. When I connect to the EE Router for wireless I have internet and in the EE UI I can see that the R2 is offline (not a green icon but grey). When I reboot the R2 whilst still connected with other LAN devices into the R2, internet does not always return. I have to unplug all LAN devices, power off the R2 and power on again. Once the device has restarted and WAN is working, I then reconnect the LAN devices back to the R2. It is stable for a while but most of the time will drop again either during the next hour or even the next day. Recently it has disconnected from WAN more frequently and I decided to check the forum for ideas on how to fix this. I had experienced this initially on the firmware which shipped with the device (I forget which version it was). After reading some forum topics I had upgraded to 3.0.205, reset the device to factory settings (and had to reconnect all devices to the network and set the static IPs again!) I also set the DHCP lease to 168 hours. I am still experiencing this WAN drop. Any advice and suggestions are welcome. Many thanks!

ShadowMonarch
Hi @Netduma Fraser, I have followed your PM instructions and also re-added the 168 hours lease, turned off IPv6 for both LAN and WAN, rebooted the device via the UI before going to bed and still woke up to no internet this morning. Any further suggestions?

Any further suggestions? As I can't see the DM, could you just confirm that you factory reset the R2 after upgrading the firmware? Are you able to connect to the R2 via Wi-Fi when the connection is down?
ShadowMonarch
@Netduma Liam Yes I can confirm I did the factory reset post upgrading firmware. Wi-Fi does not go down when WAN is lost. Wi-Fi devices stay connected just fine - but no internet. I can disconnect a device from the R2 and rejoin just fine but with a warning prompt of no internet and whether I wish to connect to the R2 anyway. Netduma Liam
OK thanks, when a disconnection occurs, can you please see if you can access the interface over a wireless device? If so, could you please grab a copy of the log file and let us know what time roughly the connection dropped?

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 29, 2021 Administrators Share Posted September 29, 2021 Are you using PPPoE? In DHCP settings, change the start of the DHCP range to .50 instead of .2 then give all devices static/reserved IPs between .2 and .49 then see if it appears to be more stable. ShadowMonarch
I've got DHCP setup with reserved addresses to all devices between 100 and 250 currently. Are you suggesting to drop this to 2 and 49 to have a shorter range and for fewer devices?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 29, 2021 Administrators Share Posted September 29, 2021 Okay that's fine then, leave those as that are and change the DHCP range to start at .2 and end at .99. The idea is to have all the devices have IPs outside the range set
ShadowMonarch
Woke up to no WAN again unfortunately. I have now factory reset the R2 Router again. Set up just the 5GHz main band and the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Guest bands. I will not configure any static DHCP addresses for any devices and leave them to obtain an IP on their own. I have set the lease to 168 hours. IPv6 is OFF for LAN and WAN Only Ethernet Device connected is the TV now. I will see how I get on with this setup. ShadowMonarch
Okay so in the past 2 days I've had 2 instances of loss of WAN. This is becoming quite frustrating now as to bring it back up I have to reboot the router multiple times until it regains WAN. I had been putting up with it for almost a year now but the frequency of loss is getting shorter. In some instances I could get away with perfect connection for a week, at the shortest I could lose WAN multiple times within the space of a few hours. Do you have any more recommendations on what I could try next?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted October 3, 2021 There isn't much else we can advise really, a new firmware is very close now, imminent I would say so you can wait for that or get a replacement but there is no guarantee it wouldn't have the same issue as it is firmware related.
