Hi,

Was wondering if anything had any trouble setting up their new R2 router with Virgin. My Router is currently in Modem Mode with an existing router works fine moment i plug in to set the netduma the netduma is reporting as "No active internet connection" but if i plug the new router in my old router it picks the internet up.

Followed guide on set up no luck at all.

Any help is appreciated.

hi and welcome to the forum.

unplug the power from the R2. make sure ethernet cable goes from wan in the r2 to the bottom lan port on the superhub. reboot the superhub and wait til you have a solid purple light to ensure it is fully online then connect the power to the r2.

you have to perform a "boot sequence"  superhub reboot and once it is fully linked then you power on the R2. Failure to follow these steps will result in a none connection.

my 2nd connection to our house is virgin on sh3.

@BIG__DOG wish it stated that in instructions, had it about 6 weeks now ! I will attempt this tomorrow. Thank you again.

as the R2 is sold globally it wouldn't work to provide instructions for specific isp's. Glad you finally got the answer that you wanted. This instruction is also in the help section of your sh3 user guide so it is not just down to Netduma! Thanks!

@BIG__DOG do you mind sharing the link to the  sh3 user guide ?  or are you referring to the one in the box?

A youtube tutorial on how to connect a router to sh3 and setting up modem only mode. Here.

@Netduma Fraser Yes, this is where it's telling me no internet connection. Seems like a stupid thing not to do as its the first thing you are instructed to do when you turn the router on. Thanks,

leonard

Some people don't access it to do this so just making sure! Click to setup manually there then skip it to get through the interface. I'm with Virgin and I find the modem mode to be a bit finicky, can you change it to router mode, then reboot the R2 from the interface and see if you get a connection?

Fair enough mate.

So if router is in router mode > r2 fine

if router is in modem mode > my current router > r2 fine

if router is in modem mode > r2 no connection

So i think the r2 router is fine, cause when a different devices passes through the internet it works.

The only thing i see on this tutorial is different is setting WAN interface to DHCP client . I will try this.

It should be plug and play really with the VM Hub, if rebooting the R2 doesn't work in when VM is in modem mode and clicking apply on DHCP in WAN Settings doesn't then I'd recommend you keep the VM in router mode - it's how I have mine setup.

I shouldn't have to keep it in router mode though, double NAT appears on console etc.

It's really weird cause i unplugged both this morning,  plugged in the VM then waited till it was back in modem mode and then booted up the Duma = " No internet connection". Then i take the cable and plug it straight in my tp link router and the internet kicks back in.

This is also me checking WAN = DCHP set up.

ok, then try the same method I suggested and once the vm hub is fully up and running (solid purple light) press and hold the pin reset button for atleast 10 - 15 seconds on the r2and wait 2 mins and then access the r2 gui.

@Netduma Fraser

Ok so i've just put it into modem mode, restarted VM router let it load up and then powered up the NetDuma > plugged in via ethernet. Still no internet connection (image not working with duma in router mode)

But if i unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into my current router the internet works (image working router in router mode).

Ethernet cable connected to VM > Netduma at the time of resetting? do i leave the duma on?

@BIG__DOG @Netduma Fraser Weirdly after letting it complete the setup with no internet connection and cycled through the start up it worked.

I need to try flicking it back into modem mode now and test that later on.

If i leave my router into router mode is there any settings you would recommend applying to the VM modem? like turn wifi off ect...
