Glynn_A
Hi Your adblocker is absurdly too strong, I only got the router working today and I had to make several exceptions just to be able to log into google and access youtube, then I had problems with clicking on an advertised result in the search engine. Secondly, I am getting pretty disappointed in the few hours I have been using it, with the very poor wifi reception, a reception I would have expected to be better than sky’s hub routers.. it’s not (with results of less than 5mhz in a room I was getting 15mhz before in). Just for informational purposes I have changed the DNS to cloudflare, I have geo-filter on (kind of a pointless router without having that on) and I have tried both QoS on and off.. no improvement. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 21, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 21, 2021 Set your the WiFi antennae like this _ | | _ so two pointing straight up, one either side pointing outwards, that should help with range. Are you using Mirror mode? We're working on WiFi improvements currently as well. It shouldn't be that strong, what were the URLs you needed to whitelist? Glynn_A
What exactly is mirror mode, where do I check that setting. Secondly, the url’s were resolving to certain subdomains, like for example adverts.google.com and although typically you would want adverts blocked, the moment you block some of these, when there is a pop up that has bypassed this filter, it makes it impossible to dismiss any kind of pop up advert. Secondly, no offence but I find the platitude regarding wifi a little empty since I can find posts from 2020 with you promising a solution to this problem “in the next update”. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 21, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 21, 2021 You can check that in WiFi settings, if you're not sure what that is then it will be enabled by default - it combines 2.4/5GHz into one network and devices switch between them automatically based on need. Disable this, give 2.4/5GHz different names and save. Set 2.4GHz to use 20 width, 5GHz to 80 width apply, then reboot from the interface and then connect manually to each and see if you notice any improvements. Understood, if you can let us know what they are we can look at removing them from the blacklist.
Glynn_A
Sorry but applying those wifi settings made no discernible difference from what I can tell. I will have to check the adblocker urls later as these are forwarding urls that you go through in order to be directed to an advert so i’d have to capture its redirect if I can. Netduma Liam
Could you perhaps try using a Wi-Fi analyser to see which are the least congested frequencies in your area, then change the Wi-Fi channels to these? That may help.
Glynn_A
Sorry to say I already have, the channels I am using are optimal.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 22, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 22, 2021 Did you make the adjustment to the antennae? Do you have any wireless/electrical devices in close proximity to the router? E.g. headphones, a remote etc
Glynn_A
Yes I made the antenna adjustments and no, there is nothing around it, it is also located in exactly the same place my sky one was, I’ve even raised it higher, in the front of the house by the front door, but i’m not comparing this to any perceived level of higher wifi, I can’t even get it equal to the sky wifi. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 22, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 22, 2021 Disable the WiFi, apply, reboot the router from the interface, wait 2 minutes, then enable the WiFi, apply, reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes - is it any better after that? Glynn_A
Wired around 48mb, wireless around 10-15mb.. I’d expect at least 30 wireless normally even with heavy useage.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 28, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 28, 2021 Make a custom rule on Traffic Prioritization for one of the wireless devices: Source 1-65535 Destination 1-65535 Protocol TCP/UDP then run a speed test, what do you get?
