Mahir
hey i have a question, i have read that it is recomended to do the speedtest with lan cable on speedtest.net that i have done and i setted up the speed on 450mbps or so but when i keep getting 705mbps and above when i use the conecction benchmark. So my question is should i go with the 705mbps or the speeds that speedtest.net provides me?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 2, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 2, 2021 What are the speeds you actually pay for/expect as there is a big discrepancy there so we should find out why that is Mahir
Mahir
My biggest concern are the pingspikes ive read that the download speeds arent so important for smooth gaming experience if im correct? so im happy with the 705mbps. i struggle to get the spikes down ive spend many hours im getting mostly frustrated by that😓
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 2, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 2, 2021 If you have been adjusting QoS that will account for the discrepancy, can you provide a screenshot of your benchmark results? Are ALL devices connected to the R2?
Mahir
my isp should provide me 1000mbps 50mbps for upload on speedtest.net with the qos on or off im getting 475 but with the connection benchmark test around 700mbps. I only keep the playstation 5 connected with lan cable and 5 other devices all with wifi on the R2. im doing the testing with my chromebook capable of speeds to 1gbps connected the lan cable with a gigabit usb-c lan port adapter. the lan cable is a cat5e on the chromebook. i have 2 cat8 sftp conneted 1 from my isp modem to the r2 router and one from the r2 router to the playstation. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 3, 2021 Enter 1000/50 in the Bandwidth Settings of Congestion Control and disable QoS fully there also, then do speedtest.net from the chromebook, what speeds do you get? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 3, 2021 Okay so it's a gateway, have you given the R2 a static/reserved IP on it and put it in the DMZ?
Mahir
No, but i finally managed to do it! my isp modem was in bridge mode so i didnt had acces to it. i want to bridge my isp modem again will the static/reserved ip and the dmz still work if i bridge it? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 4, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 4, 2021 If you bridge it then it will remove those settings, I would recommend you leave it as is at the moment, that is how I have mine personally setup
Mahir
Isn't my isp modem wifi signals gonna interfere with the wifi signals of the R2? They are sitting next to eachother..
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 4, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 4, 2021 You can disable the ISP router WiFi and then use the R2 WiFi exclusively
Mahir
Thank you for the advice. I ran into a comment of you telling someone that ping under load is how the ping should look like saturated, but what If i'm the only one in the household using the network for gaming at night when everyone is sleeping.. What should I look out for the best gaming experience hitscan etc?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 4, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 4, 2021 Devices on standby/asleep can run background updates so I would still suggest adhering to that and setting up everything as though devices were being used and you'll get a good experience. When Qos is disabled everything works fine again. with the auto setup speed test on the duma os it will get around 700mbps on download and 50mbps on upload at speedtest.net ill get around 500mbps on download weird

Could you perhaps send an updated screenshot of your QoS settings if you've changed them at all?

Netduma Liam
Could you please go to device manager and in the options, switch to table view. Could you then send us a screenshot of the top table please? In Bandwidth Allocation, do you have 'Share Excess' enabled? If you click 'Reset distribution' instead of fully disabling QoS, do the YouTube videos then buffer OK? Does this issue occur while you're gaming, or all the time? Netduma Liam
OK great, thank you. If that occurs again you may just need to reset distribution, I think you'll notice it after making changes to Bandwidth Allocation. So that table looks fine, are there any devices connected to the Arris or is it just the R2?

The Arris delivers that after tests. The R2 is capped around 700mbps @Netduma Fraser @Netduma Liam
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 14, 2021 Administrators Share Posted April 14, 2021 As a test, please make a rule on Traffic Prioritization for the test PC: Source 1-65535 Destination 1-65535 Protocol TCP/UDP and then do speedtest.net via ethernet, what do you get?
