TODDzillaInLA
Happy new years fellow DUMA's, i got my son a pc for Christmas but i have 1 small problem. his bedroom is about 60 feet away from the R2 router, anyone got any recommendations on brand and size? Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction on a good cable / cost and should i do 60feet 75feet or 80? what ever is the better value but performance is top priority. thank you in advance for pointing me in the right direction. Cheers mates
OnlineGamer
you could move the cable connection to his room but your isp will charge for that, and he will have the modem and the router in his room. having a long ethernet is better than wifi but not as good as having a 6ft ethernet cable to his pc/console. as of brand i have no clue besides that cat6 is better than cat5e and cat5 in terms of wiring because it can handle up to 1000mbps or 1gbps, so maybe ill learn about it here. TODDzillaInLA
What you guys think of this one? Ethernet Cable 75 ft, GLANICS High Speed CAT 8 LAN Network Internet Cable 40Gbps 2000MHz SSTP with Gold Plated RJ45 Connector (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0863NXKDR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Q767FbXEMRN27?psc=
Newfie
Why cat 8? As long as you have the right cable standards and if shielding is required you may need an earthing point a Cat6 is more than enough for the R2. You will gain no advantage with a cable that is over spec even a cat 5e would do the job under normal running conditions and you would not notice any difference. I use Cat 6 STP and it’s fine and a total over kill for my setup.

Newfie
Belden or I have some non fancy Belkin. I don’t like flat cables myself. If your cables working and you have no issues it’s fine.

Newfie
You will never tell a difference, trust me I’m fussy and as long as it’s from a known company it will be fine. Not saying all those cables you see on Amazon from Tom, Dick, and Harry are bad it’s I just prefer a known company.
