QoS outdated?

Recommended Posts

I saw a post on Reddit that I thought was interesting for the duma team.

I’ve Noticed whenever I prioritize Games Console or even just UDP packets on cod, my High priority packet counter goes up SIGNIFICANTLY. Like it’s up to 100,000 within 20 minutes of playing. Some say it’s normal but wirehshark says differently..... unlesss.... the QoS is picking up other devices on my network using that port. Examples, Camera, Stresming devices etc... any way to counter this? Perhaps static IPs? Different subnets?

Isn’t that what it is now? The options at the end? Gaming/Voice, Default etc?

WMM is a Wi-Fi standard which all routers have and can be turned on or off, although off can give really bad results hence its always best to leave it on,  Its just been broken down into individual components which can be altered manually on the R2. I'm guessing best effort is classified as gaming as WMM does not have a gaming component.

For you on the XR1000 yes exactly, not available on the other routers just yet.

If that’s the case, why is it called wireless type? And not traffic type? Very confusing :(

It is actually called Traffic Type on the next R2 build but I agree, I'm trying to get some clarification on it.

So why have you been telling ya default is the best option but there is an option for gaming/voice. Like bruh

Until I can get some proper clarification default is how everyone usually prioritizes so that is what I know works and how it behaves that is why I'm suggesting it. I think the other options are for wireless devices but until I know for certain I won't suggest it, you can of course try them out and see what your experience is like.

WMM does not have an option for gaming, its a Wi-Fi alliance standard and that cant be changed.WMM is for wireless devices only and nothing to with WAN only WLAN. The four types of WMM which are are the same for all routers, which are Voice (AC_VO)  Video (AC_VI) Best Effort (AC_BE) and Background (AC_BK) there is no gaming option and you cant add one. This setting does not effect WAN in any way. Most routers are set at best effort, enterprise gear like Cisco lets you select any of the above manually and with much greater granular control.

Wireless devices ? Or traffic type?

is traffic type coming in the next XR1000 update? Not just a rename change?

It's named wireless traffic type and traffic type on the R2, that's why I want to get some clarification before I give any definitive answers as it doesn't appear to be consistent across platforms currently.
