Hey, welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. What firmware version are you on currently and what is your exact physical setup?

Posted

My firmware is 2.3.2.56

My modem is the Cisco DPC3208.

My Xr500 is hard lined in with my Tcl TV & ps4 pro. While having a couple phones and tablets connected via Wi-Fi. Is plugged into a surge protector but from reading on here I have switched to plugging it in to the wall directly.

I usually disable the net on devices when not in use.

At night when the issue occurs I'm running Netflix on the ps4 pro. While my phone is still connected to wifi.

I should mention that it does reboot after a few minutes when this happens.

Thank you very much for the information. It is probably when your DHCP renews. Please provide a screenshot of Settings > Monitoring > Connection Status. You can block out the IP address, I'm interested in the Lease Obtained/Expires values.

Sorry for the delay. I had factory reset my router and got a new modem but it happened again

Your lease is 8 hours, I believe that is why. Contact the ISP and see if they can extend your lease and that should resolve it.

How come this has never been an issue before? I've had the same service for years this has only been an issue the past week. And now looking at the logs I see alot of dos attacks

There is a DHCP issue that Netgear is fixing and I believe it that issue, not everyone gets it and can start seemingly out of the blue. Would recommend also trying the beta and seeing if that helps: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-DumaOS-3-0/bd-p/en-home-beta-npg-duma

The DoS entries are just connections you've come in contact with, they won't actually be attacks.

So I installed the beta and even reserved the ip on my ps4 and now it has happening more often. What should I try now?

I should have said before but do a factory reset, as it is quite a leap from the previous firmware it is best to do so to prevent any legacy issues carrying over.

It means every 30 minutes a new IP will potentially be issued, this could cause issues as you may get disconnected and then reconnected. If that was the case though then it would happen every 30minutes so if that isn't happening no need to worry even though 30m is insanely short!

Make sure under settings dialup is set to always and timeout is set to 0

In that case it doesn't really matter. At least 24hrs would be the minimum I would go for but no need to pursue that as you won't notice any change.

Yes you would need to call them and ask.

I  did do a factory reset as someone in the comments I had read previously said to do so after every install. However it still kept happening. So I rolled it back and installed V2.3.2.32 . But again still experiencing the same problem. I am at my wits end. What should I do next?

There should be a new firmware next week so perhaps put it into AP mode until then as that should stop any disconnects but it will only work if you're not using a pure modem.

How do I do that? And what is a pure modem? My modem is not a router combo. It does have a phone jack connected thou. I now have a Arris tm1602a after requesting a new one. Is it pure?

Also should I put the firmware back to the lastest official version?

Can't I just turn off DHCP until then?

The latest firmware includes security updates which is always recommended just to be on the safe side.

Reset the router after upgrading, set up as new.

How old is the XR500, is it still under warranty?

Okay it is a pure modem as it doesn't provide WiFi - most people call their modem/router provided from the ISP as a modem which is incorrect as if it provides WiFi it isn't a pure modem.

It is always good to be on the latest, you can disable DHCP but you will need to reserve IPs for all your devices and any new ones you intend to add you will need to set a static IP on the device itself.

So the other day, I had went to v.2.3.2.40 and did this

In Internet Setup switched to Static instead of Dynamic. .
In LAN Setup I reserved ip's for only 2 devices, the only 2 wired in the tv and ps4 pro. Not for any of the devices on wifi.
However the next morning the net was down for everything unless I plugged the actual modem into it.

But now I have reset the router to factory and reinstalled V2.3.2.56, all the settings are back to default except for smart connect which is disabled. And Traffic Prioritization with only the ps4 added to it. This was my original setup that was giving me trouble thou.

My kid comes home today from their vacation so I am desperate to get a steady wifi connection so tomorrow she's not getting kicked out of her virtual classes left and right.

I know how to reserve the IPs but how do i do the rest?

So you would have to reserve the IPs for all the devices the router shows in LAN Settings. Any devices that you want to join after that you would have to set a static IP on the device itself from the device network settings.

For IP you would give it something another device isn't using e.g. 192.168.1.35
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

and then they can connect.
