I'm not entirely sure how vpn work but I've read that in some scenarios, it can reduce packet loss,  ping etc.

Is this true? And would the geo filter make a vpn almost redundant?

In most cases a VPN will actually raise your latency. If you have particularly bad routing to a game server i.e. you have a high ping to begin with then using a VPN can but not always help in that instance to provide a more efficient path to the server. If you have something like 30ms ping on average for example it is unlikely to help you.

I got it to work. The only issue is that now that im on vpn, it starts matchmaking at <113 ms ping.

My ping assist is set at 45.

I let it put me in a game just to see if it was just an error, but ping was extremely high and I started having much bigger connection issues

I started trying a different vpn provider and it was going ok. But I had no idda it actually restricted my speeds that badly.

I'm on a gigabit plan and it had me slowed down to 5mbps / 900kbps on my ps4.

I'm done with the vpns lol

I guess my theory was to try to alter the route of my bandwidth.

Certain hops give me issues that aren't related to my provider

That could definitely help, might be worth trying some other VPN providers as they won't all use the same routing.
