SendNukes
I need some insight on this. I'm assuming DNS override is the same thing as just plugging in a DNS such as Google or cloudfare etc.. What exactly is upstream DNS and can it help me? Also, does this router have a tool that allows me to find out which DNS servers are best for me? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 30, 2020 Administrators Share Posted August 30, 2020 Yes that is what the DNS is, if you select upstream DNS then it will just use whatever the ISP modem/router has set which will usually be the ISP but if you override it then you can set it to whatever you like. No there isn't but it has been suggested before so we'll added it to our list. There are several tools online you can use, Cloudfare is probably the best. SendNukes
I don't have a pc. So I suppose the only way to find out if cloudfare is better than my isp dns is a series of speedtests/pingtests?
PharmDawgg
Just to add if your network uses IPv6 there is no way at this time to change your IPv6 DNS servers - the R2 will always use your ISP's IPv6 DNS servers.
SendNukes
Does that mean I'm better off sticking with my ISP's iPv4 dns, or not necessarily?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 30, 2020 Administrators Share Posted August 30, 2020 It would almost certainly be better than the ISP one. Really the performance is marginal so as you're on IPv6 I'd just leave it as it is.
