Still having lag spikes/bufferbloat while gaming :(

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone and their families are well & safe.

So i upgraded from my Nighthawk r8000 to XR500 on Sunday as they told me my r8000 was having hardware issues because all troubleshoots were done and I was still experiencing a ton of bufferbloat on both my PS4's (one is wired and other wifi). I upgraded to XR500 and still can't seem to get it corrected (My bandwidth with my ISP is 1GB down 41 up). My bufferbloat/latency issue has to do with my Upload... I tried dropping it to 45% and games still have a lot of lag. I would like to know if you can please help me setup my settings  correctly as I truly want to be apart of the Netduma community because of the great service and quality is provided consistently. I will provide any additional information needed.

Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

hi and welcome to the forum.

You bufferbloat goes hand in hand with your download speeds too. try 70 for them both. but as you have such high bandwidth you could go a lot lower than that and if you find the sweet spot set the XR500 and then enable that for when you are gaming. I also do not use classified games and instead use my xbox and set it to console in the options. Fell free to ask questions and we will be happy to help on the forum if possible.

Hello, Yes I have it on 65% Down 50% up and still. I classified mine as well as console, not game. I even dropped both to 40% still has lag spikes. -_-

I suggest you run pingplotter and run a test on your connection to see if there is an issue. The software is free to try with full features such as jitter (this will cause spikes) and after the trial it goes to a basic version. Post screenshots of your results please.

I did this as well, the ping is perfectly fine averaging 10-15, but as devices connect the higher the ping gets and it gets to huge spikes, even with QOS activated.

This is how it currently is. But, once devices start connecting it is not as consistent as this. and even with this ping i get spikes in my games.

those look pretty stable. You will always get the odd spike in the graphs on ping plotter but those are fine on yours as they arent in the high level. What games are you playing?

I have 0 correctables on my modem except this one...can this be it?

Someone with more network knowledge could answer that as you have a different connection type to me. Having said that, your SNR ((signal to noise ratio) is quite high which would imply there is interference in your connection. I am on vdsl and my SNR is 12. Your ISP may deny that will cause issues as it is in the acceptable range but I wouldnt be happy with it.

I'd also suggest you use PingPlotter when heavily downloading and adjust Anti-Bufferbloat until you find what lowers the ping/keeps it as stable as possible on PingPlotter.
