my xr500 been randomly rebooting for a month now i have downgraded firmware to .28 currently on .56 and  still getting the same problem please help.

This is should not an issue since a house is a giant splitter amyway, one power cable in and your ring main acts like a splitter with loads of sockets off it. Unless you are using a 100 meter extension cable with the wrong rating it wont make any difference. Also a UPS which has multiple outlets powers servers which need a clean and stable power source. Basically a router is fine off an extension cord or surge protector or UPS.

How often does it reboot? Does it seem to happen at any particular time of day or when something specific is happening on the network such as when it there are lots of devices using the internet?

Do you have a spare power adapter with the same voltage that you could use with the router to see if the original is faulty?

Yes I have a adapter thats 12v but is 2.5a instead of 3.5a will that be a problem?

Yes this should be fine to use, let us know how you get on. If it does seem to be fine then I would suggest purchasing an adapter with the correct ampage to be safe.

Welp the router rebooted today twice around 6 hours apart.

I would suggest contacting Netgear or the retailer you purchased from to try and get a replacement as your router may be faulty.
