hi i have a Seagate BUP Slim BK 2tb drive that i am trying to use to try plex out, however the drive is not showing in the router under usb settings  (i have already rebooted many times) except once after a reboot but even though it was showing in usb settings and was added to approved it still showed no usb device connected in the plex tab. any help would be grateful as i would like to get a plex server up and running and if i can i will invest in a larger drive (this one is just to test it and at the moment i am glad i didn't spend out on a bigger drive as i can't even get this one to detect

Have you tried following this guide? https://kb.netgear.com/000060256/How-do-I-set-up-my-Plex-Media-Server-on-my-Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-XR700-router

It may also need to be formatted to the GPT type. Failing both of those it may be worth trying one of the hard drives shown on the XR500 or R7000 list here: https://kb.netgear.com/18985/Will-my-USB-drive-work-with-ReadySHARE

I take it you are using the XR700? Have you correctly formatted the drive for the router to recoginse? NTFS should be fine as I don't thin it supports exfat. There is no need to invest in a larger capacity drive, I had the plex server running on a 1TB drive but invested in a synology NAS as I did not want streaming and video rendering interfering with gaming or impacting my gaming in any way.
