Xabiss Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Howdy. I just purchased a XR500 and really love the router so far. I have it currently connected to a Netgear CM500 cable modem and I was wondering if I should change it out to something on the good list. I know the CM500 does not have that Intel chipset so I am really not sure what makes it a bad modem to use with Netduma. Is the list below only for modems connected to the R1 or should we be using that list with the XR500 also. Thanks for any information. http://forum.netduma.com/topic/20681-best-gaming-modems-opinions/
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 12, 2018 Administrators Posted March 12, 2018 Hi Xabiss, welcome to the forum! Glad to hear you're enjoying the XR500. You should be fine to use your current modem, I can't foresee any issues using that. I would only look into a new modem if you start getting issues and it can be identified as the modem as the cause.

For whatever reason, the game play on that modem feels off. If you wanna try something else I still recommend the TP-Link TC-7610 What is your ISP?

A lot of people are not to familiar with them. The Netgear seems to be running pretty good, but I was not sure what I should look for or how to test it to see if it is working good with the XR500. It seems like my connection is always stable and I always have an A, A, A rating at DSL reports with anti-buffer bloat turned on. Just wasn't sure why this modem was put in the bad list since it does not have the crappy Intel Puma chipset in it.

I have the netgear CM600 with xr500, and i ran ping plotter for 20 plus minutes, without any lag spikes. im pretty sure the cm500 is just find.

Sounds like it's working as expected so I wouldn't bother changing it unless you can tell its causing issues. If it isn't broken don't fix it as they say!

It's a feel in game... it just feels off to me, in comparison to my TC-7610. It didn't measure any differently on any tests I ran.
