Unsure
Hi i just got an R1 a week ago but its been sitting in the box. long story short, had buffer bload, isp sent new router, now have AAAA on dsrl test and all is good. My question, does the netduma do anything besides your basic qos to stop bufferbloat. Not to disrespect your work guys but if its just a router that has QOS and region filter that doesnt work on many new xbox games like gears of war, is there any point in me switching out my isp router for this ancient looking ibm windows 95 style hardware. I bought it to test before getting the new netduma nighthawk but it doesnt seem clear on wether it does actually do anything special in terms of gaming routers or if its just your basic qos router i could get for 20 quid except it has a decent gui and amazing marketing. pardon my bluntness its just im of the opinion that if you actually had something here it would be listed or spoken about somewhere and from the looks of things this is just an ok router designed to get the best out of adssl 10 megs. if its worth it in anyway could you please mention somewhere on your website why?, and take into account i dont even mean the price tag here, i have the router i just mean if its worth the 20 minute setup? BIG__DOG
Strange why you would buy an R1 then have it sitting around for over a week unused, slate the actual hardware then state you are going to be buying the XR500. The R1 is getting the new dumaOS in April. It does not take 20 mins to setup at all either. Besides what other router on the market offers you geo filtering? The R1 can handle up to 800mbps. Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted February 22, 2018 Netduma Staff Share Posted February 22, 2018 Hi, welcome to the forum! You're right about looks, the R1 is straight from the 90's on the outside. You should never judge a router by its casing though! Our QoS is anything but basic - we're working on building straight-forward controls for routers, but the actual software isn't just standard QoS. If you're interested in the technical side, check out this blog on the subject: https://netduma.com/blog/announcement-unveiling-the-worlds-greatest-qos/. Our QoS is designed from the ground up quite literally, based on in-house research rather than on other routers. Anti-Flood is specifically designed to combat bufferbloat and reduce latency in a way no other router has attempted. Device Prioritisation is a more intuitive way to manage and limit bandwidth across many devices, and Hyper Traffic is entirely unique - allowing game packets to leave the router before any other traffic to mitigate the effects of downloads on gaming. We've also got the Pre-emptive algorithm, an entirely unique solution for users on low speed connections to reduce latency. All these elements on top of the Geo-filter, VPN hybrid and other unique features are what makes the Netduma R1 special. DumaOS will include many of these features as well as many more when it hits the R1 in April - the XR500 is essentially better hardware with DumaOS already installed. I hope this answers your points. If you have any questions then fire away - we really aren't just a clever marketing company though. If we were, we would have got ourselves a better looking router. Unsure
hi not a bad reply but it didnt really answer my question, perhaps i should phrase my main point more straight forward. if i have 100 meg up and down and 1ms ping locally and 5 ms to microsofts servers and only use 1 device on the network, ie for this example the xbox one, wired via cat 6. Is your router going to provide better gaming, taking into account that your geo filter doesnt work on my main games. Vs my isp router that now has 0 bufferbloat and is a gigabit router. Unsure
@big dog i ordered it when i had 1500ms bufferbloat but my isp sent me an updated variant and i now have no bufferbloat, also the money doesnt bother me especially considering i got it for 50 euro. i was going to buy a 200+ quid nighthawk instead of the outdated duma and then noticed they are combining forcez hence my interest in that. and as for you general attitude to my general attitude, well it seems clear that the netduma is nothing more than good marketing unless you have a sub 10 meg adsl connection, which i think shouldnt be allowed to game online anyway but thats a different discussion. The Netduma Congestion Control features are built to eliminate lag caused by multiple devices. I'm guessing that you have multiple devices - just running through a separate router at the moment. Those can still cause lag, so the Netduma can help with that. If you use a Modem > Netduma > All Devices setup, Congestion Control will eliminate problems caused by your other home devices when you're downloading or anyone else is using them. If the Geo-Filter is incompatible with your main games then just don't use it for now. It'll be there for whenever you get a game that does require it, and it is literally the only way you can control which hosts / servers you can connect to in matchmaking games. If you're 100% happy with your connection then I'm not sure why you're looking for a new router in the first place, but if you did want a serious gaming router then the XR500 is the best rated router ever released. If your connection is completely perfect, then it would still help when you download anything / use other devices when gaming / play Geo-filter supported games.
