Zepsblackdog
Ok, I've been dickin around with this router for days. Something isn't right. (hopefully it's my errors.) 1. There's NO way I should have to PLACE my home manually. How can I force the router to find itself? Tried some youtube stuff, didn't work When I did a factory reset, it puts me in Seattle WA. I live in Clearwater FLorida. 2. When I set home to Clearwater area, I CANNOT connect to STEAM. I uploaded a pic of what I had to do in order for me to connect to Steam and to game. I had to expand Geo filter across the country in order to cover this SEATTLE server. Once I did that, I allowed it to connect, reset my geo filter to local, and STEAM now works. I have my server in STEAM set to MIAMI. This tells me alot, because I'm pinging 100ms to servers only 200 miles away? I believe my location is not properly founded within the router. When using strict mode, it takes ages to get a game. As soon as I disable strict, it connects to ALL the players and the SERVER that was in my filter to start with..WTF? Am I missing something here? I'm on 106H version. THX. ZBD
Zepsblackdog
<a href="https://ibb.co/gFb4na"><img You can see where I really am, and where this server STEAM issue thing is... I MUST allow this crappy server to have steam work. It is in the TOP LEFT of the image. AFTER allowing it. Problem is that if I DON'T use strict mode, it connects me that piece of crap all the time in games... ALSO.... my ping is 32ms to that server in the pic. Now COME ON! really? 32ms to Seattle, 2300 milesway, and 100 ms to servers 200 milesway? HELP!?

Hey ZPD; so with regards to setting your home, that's something everyone with a Netduma has to do - we don't want to put tracking etc. on the router for your own privacy. The ability to set your own home is also very useful, since you can then manipulate it to force particular servers. With strict enabled, it's taking ages to connect to a game since your radius is set very small for use with strict mode. With that enabled, we'd recommend a distance of 1000km (which isn't so far that the games will degrade in quality). With it disabled, you'll connect only to Dedicated Servers outside the radius. As with the Steam issue; there is a fix for that. Go into Settings > Miscellaneous and select these cloud numbers: 33, 30, 28. Let us know if that works for you

Zepsblackdog
Thanks for the reply sir, How do we explain the 2500 mile distance and 32ms ping? Is this just a false reading, or a geo bug? Also, I have my filter at 1000 miles (1600KM) that should be plenty no? There is ALSO this annoying server in KANSAS that EVERYTIME I ping trace any game, I'm going to it first. Even when it's OUT out my geo field. Is there a way to get rid of that unnecessary route? Seems odd, I have to go through it even though there are plenty of players in the game, and one of them is hosting.

It could potentially be mislocated; if you click on that particular server and send us the ID here we'll check it when we next work on a cloud update. It is possible to get hosts that are somewhat further away and still have a good ping however; it's just a lot less likely to have a low ping than a close host. Having the radius set to 1000 miles will make your game search take a decent amount of time; most Netduma users like to work on it though and try to find the best settings for their location. I'd recommend having a look at where all the dedicated servers are in relation to you, as well as where you get connected to the most, and changing the settings are you see fit. Zepsblackdog
I probably should have told you, If you didn't know, I'm on PC. I understand that the servers are the same location for consoles (xbox?) For IW. I RARELY see a dedi server. It's almost always P2P connections. When I do get a dedi, it's so far away CALIFORNIA) or Washington state, or Nevada, that it's laggy. I can't seem to pinpoint the dedis on the east coast. I understand there's one in Virginia and Miami, butI've YET to connect to them. I check all connections and rarely is the TEMP BAN option available. Well if there aren't any dedi's that give you a decent connection near you then I'd leave your Geo-filter settings be rather than focusing on those. If you're having a good gaming experience now, just keep track of what ping you tend to get to the host so you can immediately tell if anything changes with your connection. Zepsblackdog
Ok, just had a decent dedi..but can't always allow it? Only option is to temp ban.. How do I allow this server at all times, WITHOUT moving my geoloc.? Now I'm finally getting DEDIS to show up! Must have been the addition of the cloud numbers... Could you please tell me what exactly that did? Whitelist..33 Gameserver:30 Map:28 All the dedis are now showing up quickly when I start IW. Matches are faster to acquire and no longer am I having the STEAM issue. WHY isn't this pre-setup?

Without changing the size of your radius, you can turn off strict mode to allow yourself to connect to dedi's outside the radius. You could also use ping assist should you want to connect to hosts outside the radius (so long as they have a decent ping). The cloud numbers are for Geo-filter server locations / whitelisting. Some background servers need to be whitelisted to allow certain services to work properly, hence why the latest version which you're now on had a fix for the Steam issue. Each of the latest cloud versions can potentially be unstable however, so they need to be tested etc.

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 30, 2017 Administrators Share Posted May 30, 2017 That appears to be a Time Warner Cable IP address so it is a person. You should be able to block it so you can't connect again.

OK, but even when I block it, the trace route shows me going OUT of my geofilter, and rebounding from it..? Trace route has little merit I assume? ALSO, thanks for all the help, but can you tell me if I need to PORT FORWARD from my ROUTER/MODEM? I'm in the DMZ withe R1, I have UPNP enabled in the MODEM/ROUTER, but NOTHING (UPNP or UPNP forwarding) enabled on the R1. I DO have ports forwarded on the R1 for COD games. Reason I ask is...since DMZ to the R1, the performance has been good, but the interface FREEZES constantly. I've researched this issue, and selected the port forward/ NO HYPER LANE option and it still locks up quite frequently. Forces an UNPLUG of the R1 because unable to get to the page for a reboot.. I wouldn't pay attention to the trace route. You'll need to be disconnected from them for 2 minutes/until they disappear off the map and then they'll be blocked. You'll still be able to ping/trace them but you just won't be able to connect to them for a game. If you're going to do any port forwarding it should be on the Netduma itself. Disable UPnP on the modem/router, no devices other than the R1 should be connected to it so theres no need for it to be on. I would recommend modem mode if that is a possibility. Otherwise DMZ, UPnP off and WiFi off on it. Are you also using Google Chrome to access the interface?
Zepsblackdog
I am using Chrome, yes. Like i said earlier, great performance in the DMZ, AND>>> I get to use the ARRIS for my wife's crap, turn off wifi on the R1, and just use it for pc gaming. I will disable UPNP on the ARRIS and see if that does the trick. I was in BRIDGED mode initially, no issues like this at all. BUT... I liked the option of the 5G wireless for streaming crap that the R1 didn't have. Hence, the DMZ option. Thanks for the reply Fraser, I will report back if the UPNP disable option works. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 31, 2017 Administrators Share Posted May 31, 2017 Okay I'm going to list things that I think will fix it (somethings you may have done already): Use Google Chrome Use UPnP rather than port forwarding on the R1 Disable Geo-filter Don't use hyper traffic Default theme
Zepsblackdog
I was using ALL of the above EXCEPT I had ports forwarded. Using UPnP now, no issues. Thank you. open NAT still too..
