Any idea why this is happening

Recommended Posts

Ok so im having some issues with lag lately. Its been that bad i cant even play more than 30mins without getting frustrated. I play ps3 and ps4 also games im playing are Aw on ps4 and black ops on ps3. And they are both playing like shit for me i dont know what the cause is lately but im over it, PA is set to 50ms and geo range is 1700km

Ive noticed lately that in my device manger when my ps3 and ps4 are connected via wired. In the first image below it shows a solid line from the router to ps3 aND PS4. But every few seconds or minutes it disappears and shows no solid line displayed in image 2 below. I have no idea if this could be causing my issue so i thought. I would post before taking my lag support to the next step. Also my laptop is connected via wired and it never does this also my cable is brand new and haven't tested to see if using another new cable fixes the issues as i need a 10mtr cable to try this.

I would try a new ethernet like you describe.

I would aslo try lower settings on your geo and ping assist , I run a 0 ping assist so i stay within my filter and  get much better games.

1700km sound huge to me as i use 314km but i am in the uk, i have to wait a few minutes to find games but they are of a much higher standard for it.

I doubt its the cable. What pings are you getting Clinton? Can you take a picture of your Geo-Filter when you're playing.

The only reason why my geo i that big is cause when i add my friends to my allow list. The next day i cant join them agaian unless i re ad them so now i dont even bother addind them. I just expand the geo so eveyone is covered. Then theres no more problems.... Also Iain i will add a pic of my geo pings soon just about to jump on usally there around 40ms but i doenst feel like it.

I see but you are giving up a better gaming experience for ease because of your freinds IP changing regulary as i remember.

I would try to re add them and use a smaller filter and see how it plays in comparison to a large filter.

What size would you recommend to start out maybe 1000km ? Maybe ill ask them to do a static ip and see if that fixes it all up. Also i was wondering the host that you deny what happens when there ip changes. Does that mean there is a possibilty i could join them again ?

Also lain here are my in game geo pings

Hi Clinton,

Sorry was had meetings with Lawyers yesterday.

Yes if there IP changes you can connect to them again. At the moment for Xbox there is no way to track a gamertag or paticular ISP.

Those pings look good, can you post your Internet diagnostic test please to see if its possible to improve.

Hi mate, I'll explain what I'm doing so you understand. You see the line:

round-trip min/avg/max = 35.888/36.538/37.083 ms

I look at the averge which is 36.538ms. So that is a pretty good measure of your best possible ping. With the router according to the ping graph you're getting 40ms. So you are a tiny 4ms of your best host. So that pretty much means you're getting as good a ping as you can get with your connection. Also just to clarify I think 40ms is a good ping.

So I'm afraid to say from a network point of view you have working perfectly. Maybe you have lag somewhere else e.g. the tv, monitor or controller?

All good lain i totally understand where you are coming from. A extra 4ms is not even visible to the human eye, other than that i was just wanting to know. Why in device manger does the solid cable line dissapear from my ps3 and ps4 ? is it just a glitch ?

Also do you reccomend me making my geo smaller, Ive had the best gaming tonight almost pulled 4 dna"s on aW :)

The cable line is just a glitch. Its actually pretty tricky to detect how a device is connected by wire/wifi without interfering with performance of the router. Take device manager with a pinch of salt.

Glad the games got better :)

In terms of making it smaller, no don't think so you're pretty much on the optimum. If I lived in Aus I'd just cover the entire Aus I think.
